Spring is in the Air!! Check the "ticker" above and note just how few days of school there are left!!
However, Let's not let Spring Fever take it's toll on us -- there is still lots to teach and lots to learn!! Being on time and prepared for school is one of the MOST important parts of your parenting job!! It makes such a difference when your child is ready to start when the bell rings (at 7:40). The value you place on school makes a definite impression on your child and being on time and ready shows this value.
If there are issues that cause regular tardies or absences, please give me a call and see if we can work together to solve those problems.
Upcoming Events:
Math/Maze Assessments for 1st and 2nd grade -- April 24th
These assessments are part of the Aimsweb program and are done in the classroom and administered by the classroom teacher. Each student has the same passages to read and the same amount of time to read it, the math computation is the same for each student and the same amount of time to work the problems. The teachers score these assessments and our interventionist (Amy James) puts them in the computer and prepares graph results based on the Fall, Winter and Spring norms.
As with all assessments and everyday for school, be sure your student gets a good night's sleep, a good breakfast and is on time for school
AIMSWEB Assessments, May 6th for 1st and 2nd grade and April 29th for Kindergarten
A team of educators from the District will be coming in to assess our student’s reading and math abilities. This information will be entered into computers and used to evaluate progress and growth during the year. Assessments were done in the Fall, Winter and Spring.
The assessment only takes a few minutes for each student but will give us valuable information. Results will be used to design teaching strategies over the course of the school year. There is no special preparation necessary – just like every day, students need a good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast and to be on time for school. Thanks for your cooperation.
SMALL GROUPS
Our small groups program has been a great success!! Thank you to those parents who signed their children up for the groups. We meet once a week for about 30 minutes. From each class there are 6-8 children per group -- some classes had enough for 2 groups!!
We meet during the Waterford class time so that we do not interrupt nor distract from instructional classroom time. I hope your child has given you good feedback regarding the groups. Our group time opens with a team builder, moves to an activity (or 2) with a spedific objective or trait that we are working on and closes with a sharing time which includes compliments or postitive comments from and for each child, we drink a small cup of water to refresh and calm us and then return to our classes with a specific task for the week -- these tasks are chosen by the child and is usually some change for a behavior they are having trouble with or a behavior that is working well for them.
They may refer to the activities as "games" and that's okay -- just know that there is a purpose and specific objectives for each activity chosen -- some of our best learning experiences take place in an atmosphere of fun and cooperation!!
I have so much enjoyed getting to know each one on a more personal level. We have such great children, each one of them unique and wonderful in their very own way !! Thanks again for your cooperation.
