I will begin initial assessments of the children’s abilities next week. If you wish to discuss these assessments, you will have an opportunity to set up a conference time with me in the near future. I will be sending a conference sign up sheet home next week.
I like for the children to think of our class as a type of family. We all have things in common, yet we are all different in our own unique ways. We will all learn to look out for each other, and try to put others needs above ourselves whenever possible. In short, we will learn to treat others as we would like to be treated.
Much practice is required for the children to learn how to treat others and also how to take care of our classroom. We will be diligently practicing our classroom procedures over the next few weeks (until they become routines).
The majority of our class work and learning will take place in learning centers, which will be further explained at Back to School Night. Therefore, if your child is absent from school, it is very possible that you will not receive any “make-up” work, per say.
This week will mark the introduction of color words. We will paint and create several objects that are red. The children will practice singing the “Red Song” and will practice writing the word red. At the end of the week, we will make a red snack to eat.
We will read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. The students will practice various letters and letter sounds while creating various projects.
