Welcome to Mrs. Neal's Kindergarten Room

Pray for Our Troops!

October 6-9

Parents, thank you for all your support.   Please continue to check your child’s folder everyday. Please remember, I can not give your child credit for their written homework unless it is in their folder the next day.  I will keep them in a few minutes during playtime to work on one of the assignments if they miss very many.

We are learning about life on the farm this week.  All our activities will center around farm life.  If your child has a book at home that has farm animals or life in it, he or she may bring it in. This is one of my favorite units because there are so many fun activities to do. Report cards will be coming home Thursday.  Make sure you make note of the letters, sounds, and numbers your child has not learned and spend extra time going over them every night.  I can not stress enough the importance of your child being able to recognize the letters, sounds, numbers, and sight words by December.  I am working very hard in the classroom on these concepts but it is only through teacher and parents working together, that we can be successful.

Reading

Our shared reading book this week is Milwaukee Cow.  The letter we are working on is Oo .  We have covered the letters Cc, Pp, Ss, Tt, Ww, Aa,Ff and Mm.  Your child should be able to recognize and be able to tell you the sound of each letter.  Even though we have not focused on all the letters, we do go over them everyday.  If your child is paying attention, he or she should be able to recognize many of the letters and sounds at this time.  It is important that your child know the letters and sounds by December.

The sight words we are reviewing are:
the color words, I, a, and, is. said, look and like, have, the, all number words, see . I will be testing for word recognition next week Please work on them. Through our shared reading book this week, we will learn about the characters of a story, the setting, what the problem in the story is and how it was solved. We will break up our story into the beginning, middle, and end. We will work on putting a story in order or the sequence of events.  The children will learn more about what makes a story real or make believe.  We will also work on rhyming words.   The children will continue to  learn how to break words up into pieces or syllables.  We will be gin focusing on the  at  family.  Have your child practice sounding out words that are in the at family such at cat, bat, fat ect.

Math

We are working on recognition of numbers 6-10 while continuing to review 1-5. Your child should be able to recognize numbers 1-10 and write them correctly.
If he or she can not at this time, please work on this at home.
We are also learning number words one. two, three, four and five.
We will work on AB and ABC patterns and tally marks when counting
We will work on counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s
We will be working on word stories that involve numbers.
Work on counting backwards from 10
