CHEMISTRY is the study of matter, its structure, properties, and composition; and the changes matter undergoes.
The units we will cover with the corresponding textbook chapters include:
I. Chemistry and Matter (Chapter 1, 3)
II. Atomic Structure (Chapters 4, 5)
III. Periodic Table and Periodicity (Chapters 6, 7)
IV. Ionic Bonding (Chapter 8)
V. Covalent Bonding (Chapter 9)
VI. Chemical Reactions (Chapter 10)
VII. The Mole (Chapter 2, 11)
VIII. Stoichiometry (Chapter 2, 12)
IX. Gases (Chapter 13, 14)
X. Solutions (Chapter 15)
XI. Acids and Bases (Chapter 19)
At the beginning of each unit, you will receive a study guide outlining specific objectives and assignments for that unit.
Materials you will need for Chemistry I:
3-Ring Binder with loose leaf paper
Scientific Calculator – an inexpensive one will be adequate for this class
Lab Fee - $10
Laboratory Safety Contract - Signed
Safety Glasses for Lab- provided by the science department
