On this day in History: On August 22, 1831, Nat Turner led a group of slaves in an attack against white slave owners in Virginia.

Opening Day! I went over a lot of information with my students in class today. We distributed books and book covers too. We really need to keep books covered in order to preserve them for the 5 or so more years we'll be using them. They can use the stretchy kind of book covers but they will be required to have something more substantial underneath. I'm providing them with a white, heavy paper bookcover along the lines of grocery sack thickness. I'll keep giving them out until I run out of them.
No assignments.
Sunday, August 3rd:
Supplies for my classroom: Ink pen (blue or black), Correcting pen (red, green, or orange), and a notebook (spiral or loose-leaf 3-ring binder). Colored pencils for maps are optional. I have some in my room, just not enough for a whole class.

2. If its not yours, LEAVE IT ALONE.
3. Throwing objects in my room is strictly prohibited. The trash can is not placed in my room for basketball practice.
OTHER INFORMATION:
4. Behavior that disturbs the learning of others, unexcused absences, tardies, or continuing refusal to be in uniform will result in an Unsatisfactory Effort grade. Continued defiance of the rules will harm your class average as well. Nothing upsets me more than one person ruining a class for the other 28 people in the room.
5. Trips to office to use phone are for emergencies ONLY. No exceptions.
6. ALWAYS bring your text, notebook, and pen to class. No exceptions, no excuses.
7. Be seated and ready to work when the tardy bell rings. Morning detentions can be assessed for frequent tardiness.
8. Christ is in every one of us. Be kind and patient with others!
HOMEWORK POLICY:
1st day (due date) If work is missing 50% of assignment score is deducted w/o a parental note as to why the work could not be completed.
2nd day No excuse is accepted. 10% is awarded as your score if it is turned in. If students are consistently not turning in work parents can be contacted.
3rd day No points. Grade entered as a 0%
EXCEPTIONS: Students missing one day will have a two day grace period to hand in missing work. In the event of extended absences a time frame will be set up between me and the student/parent as to when the missing assignments are to be turned in.
