1-30-08 Students have read many poems in class and now it is their opportunity to write a creative poem of their own. It needs to be at least two stanzas or longer. This is a "free write" which means student poems may rhyme or not rhyme. BE CREATIVE! Follow the "Rubric for Evaluation" that was given in class. The poem is due on February 8, 2008.

Answer one of the following questions based on your understanding of the poems. Write the question and your answer on a separate sheet of paper. (20 points)

1.  In the poem "A Journey," there is no specific destination.  The point of the journey is the journey itself.  What do you think the journey stands for?  What can you learn about the speaker from his or her attitude toward the journey?

2.  In "Knoxville, Tennessee," what word is most often repeated at the beginnings of lines? How does this repetition reinforce the poem's message?

Remember your speech must be 3min. in length and have a introduction, main ideas and conclusion.  Any size notecards and any  number of notecards are acceptable, just make sure you have enough information for a 3 min. speech.  All speeches are due on Thursday, December 6, 2007. Refer to your speech packet for the rubric.

10-15-07 Practice vocabulary words for "The Ransom of Red Chief."  Click on the word flashcards at the top of this page to review. Vocabulary QUIZ and five short response questions will be given over this story tomorrow. Also, review worksheet p.38.

10-16-07 Your child was told to read a chapter book for this quarter's reading grade.  I will be asking students three questions on their book.  Several students have already taken the challenge and received their 50pts. for reading their novel. Ask your child if they have read their novel and taken the three question  challenge quiz on their book. Look for your child's reading workshop grade which will be posted on the parent assist program. Time is running out, all reading workshop grades should be completed by this Friday.

10-17-07 The students will be going to the library this Friday and will be able to browse the internet and check out books on a speech topic of their choice. Students will be giving an informative speech most likely in December. All topics must be approved by the teacher.  A packet of information will be coming home in the near future.
