Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the first grade, a new school year, and to our website! Every Monday I will send home a homework packet for the week. Please check for it each Monday. This website is another place you may go to find out about our homework. You will also be able to practice our sight/vocabulary words for the week by clicking on "Flashcards". ( The children really like using the flashcards for practice.) Just remember to still check for the homework packet as this may have important papers which are not on this site.
Please make sure to check your child's homework folder every night. Thanks for all your help from home and with helping your child learn good work habits. Have a great year in 2008! As always send a note if you have any questions or concerns.

Homework for the Week of May 18-22
Monday--Practice new vocabulary and spelling words. Read.
TUESDAY-- Write at least 5 sentences using some of your new words. Circle any verbs(action words) that you use.
PACK A LUNCH AND WATER BOTTLE (WITH YOUR NAME ON IT) FOR OUR GOODWILL GAMES ON WEDNESDAY
Wednesday--Math worksheet. Practice facts to 18., especially doubles. Remember to come dressed for the weather on Thursday as we will be outside for our pen pal picnic.
Thursday-- Read "Baboon" to your family. Work on fluency. Pack up library books.

~~PLEASE remember to pack a snack every day.
~~Practice new spelling words daily. We will have a review/test of the words every Friday.
~~Zoo field trip is Friday, May 29. Please return permission slip and money as soon as possible.
~~A permission slip is coming home today for our last field trip. On the last day of school, Monday, June 8th, we will walk to the Harrison Community Center to celebrate summer birthdays/end of the year with a picnic. Pack a lunch and a drink as well as play clothes to change into after church.
~~Our Pen Pal Picnic is this week on Thursday. Wear play clothes.
~Goodwill Games are on Wednesday. Wear play clothes with a spirit wear shirt,. Bring a water bottle and pack a lunch. Put sunscreen on at home.
~~As spring fever set in and schedules become even busier, please try to keep reading and practicing math facts as well as practicing spelling words and vocabulary words. Just a little bit each day really helps learning!.

***Math--Math strategies for adding and subtracting facts to 18. Adding multiplies of ten to one and two digit numbers. Add two digit numbers without regrouping.
***Reading--Sound of oo(as in tooth); main idea/details; story writing;kn digraph sound; report writing; story elements~plot; contractions.
Science--Animal groups
