Thank you for a great year!  You have been a most supportive parent group and we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children.  Just a reminder to have your child read this summer and keep track of the titles, authors, and # of pages on a notebook page.  Many students forgot to pick up a paper the last day of school in their zeal to reach the bus :-)
The reward will come in August when Mrs. Grady hands out dilly bars in the cafeteria to all summer readers!!  YUM! Have a great family summer and enjoy your family!

                        for FULL CREDIT for the RESEARCH PAPER.  
MATH/MAYFIELD -         QUIZ TOMORROW A.M. FOR ALL BLOCKS; REMAINDER OF TIME WILL BE SPENT WORKING ON FINISHING RESEARCH PAPERS.

Language Arts/Walters - Today we checked bibliographies and began writing skipping a line between sentences in the language  
                        notebook.  Only those students finished writing will be allowed to be on computers tomorrow.  Final paper
                        due typed on Friday for full credit for all students except band students. Band research papers will be
                        due Monday if additional time is needed due to no study hall Thursday and the evening concert.

May 12, 2009            Don't forget to send lunch and drink next Tuesday for our field trip to the Indians game.
                        Friday is our ice cream party for Pennies for Pets and distribution of CBIS yearbooks. Student not
                        purchasing a yearbook will be given a complimentary autograph booklet to collect signatures.

Language Arts/Walters - Bibliography typed due Wed. as well as a rough outline as per worksheet given in class today.
                        With all the in class work, most students are ready to begin writing.  Today we checked our P1
                        Introduction which was due today.  Continue research if students do not have adequate information to
                        complete outline and essay paper.
                        
Math/Mayfield -          Again, with all the testing Mr. Mayfield is not in the habit of emailing assignments;
                         please check with another student or in assignment notebook.
Social Studies/Mullis    Worksheet given in class.

Language ARts/Walters - Ancient Rome research continued - We have been researching Ancient Rome from library books and the
                        databases from our library homepage.  Students were given user names and passwords to access information
                        from home/TODAY WE USED WWW.USBORNE-QUICKLINKS.COM FOR SPECIFIC REFERENCES. 50-75 cards should be
                        nearly finished.  We will work all day in class MONDAY. Students will need, depending upon subject chosen
                        around 75 notecards to begin writing research paper for Tuesday of next week.  Deadline for research paper
                        completion is next Friday.  MOST STUDENTS will need to work some from home to be ready to begin outlining.

                        Students were given user names and passwords to access information from home.  40-50 cards should be
                        nearly finished.  We will work all day in class tomorrow. Students will need, depending upon subject chosen
                        around 75 notecards to begin writing research paper for Tuesday of next week.  Deadline for research paper
                        completion is next Friday.  MOST STUDENTS will need to work some from home to be ready to begin outlining.

Focus and Math -        All week has been testing for NWEA and the placement test for math.  Friday will be resource and
                        references proficiency posttests.

Language Arts/Walters - Today we read about Ancient Rome for an overview.  Students will be doing research all week and writing
                        their research papers next week in class.  This will count as Language/Reading & Social Studies grades.
                        Students may also research from home on the links from the library homepage.

Science/Mullis -        Microscope lab Monday and Tuesday - no homework.

                Thanks to Ms. Heather Grantham from the Johnson County Public Library who visited language arts classes today as a
                kick-off to National Poetry Month.  Teen Poetry Contest April 1-30th.  All entries must be electronically
                submitted. Internet may be accessed at the library by card holders if not available at home.

Language Arts/Walters - Wordly Wise #5 A & B; bring and share a favorite poem; bring Grammar worksbooks for TUES.

Language Arts/Walters - Add any information to biography writing needed.  We typed our diary entries, and poems today and worked
                        with timeliner and hyperhistory as needed.  WORDLY WISE Crossword is due FRI. Test on WW#4 meanings,
                        spellings, and parts of speech next Tuesday.
                        MOST INTERVIEWS NEED MORE DETAILS AND EXAMPLES SO ANSWERS WILL EQUAL A SHORT PARAGRAPH.

                        get their WW#4 back on Wed. for Thursday. We will be typing Thursday and Friday.  All work needs to be

                        these meanings and parts of speech next Tuesday.

Language Arts/Walters - Beginning rough draft for diary entry due tomorrow for conferencing; think about poem.
                        WordlyWise 4D.
                        Today in the lab we began Citation maker for our bibliography; and began research historic events
                        on Hyperhistory.  Both sites are available from home from the CBIS or FCMS library sites.  Remember you
                        cannot sale to your H drive from home. Must SAVE to a jump drive or a disc. Most of 212 have finished
                        reading biographies and working away on assigned work!  
Focus/Holman -          We took the sequencing proficiency test today.
Science/Mullis -        Merged powerpoint slides together with group.

Check assignment notebooks for other classes.  Nothing formally reported.

Language Arts/Walters - Wordly Wise #4 A & B
                        We are in full swing with our biography project.  Students have a calendar to follow and a grading rubric.
                        Students coming without materials (book and notes due) will receive HELPS.  They should be reading each
                        evening until book is completed.  Many students took advantage of getting a book on Feb. 27th, read
                        during free time during ISTEP, and have finished. Notes should be taken on character traits and examples
                        from reading that shows these traits, and students should be choosing important dates in their subjects'
                        lives to add to a timeline on WED. begin thinking about a diary entry to be written in class Thursday
                        and due the 16th. We will soon be writing a poem about our subject.  Stay tuned . . .

Science/Mullis -        Started a planet project in Science/research.

                        the Old Yeller test taken last week.  We also discussed summarizing and reviewed setting as they related
                        to free reading summaries and the "Twilight of the Wolves" assigned work.
                        Students are to write a Power Plan ONLY for "My Biggest Windy (exaggeration of the truth) to Date" -  
                        list actual supporting facts and details in power plan IN LANGUAGE NOTEBOOK.
