My name is Mrs. Russell, and I’m glad to be back for another year at Valley Christian Academy. I am so privileged to have a wonderful group of young children to share my classroom with. We are going to have such an enjoyable time working together and learning new things.
I would like to include a brief overview of myself and my past history in this profession. In August of 1995, I became certified through the State of Michigan in teaching after graduating from the University of Michigan-Flint with honors. Since then, I have acquired many blessed years of teaching experience, and the majority of those years have been spent teaching the lower elementary grades. I enjoy my chosen profession immensely, and it has been a dream working with bright young minds all this time.
I have been especially fortunate to work at Valley Christian Academy for the past five years, a school that has a wonderful educational foundation in biblical teachings. In addition, I am quite proud to announce that my youngest son Nathaniel is in his fourth year of attendance at the school.
In conclusion, I would like you to please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I’m looking forward to an excellent year with everyone.
We will be taking an excursion to Montrose Apple Orchard, just a little trip to help tie together some of our subject matter this fall. We will be learning about the growth of a seed, different types of apples, and producing some poetry about apples. Just a quick reminder: All students must have their permission slip and money turned in by Wednesday of this week, and all parent drivers must have license and proof of car insurance on file in the office.
Science-
We will currently be studying animal life cycles, specifically those of the grasshopper, frog, and butterfly. The main part of the studies will involve the change in their lifestyles and adaptations as they approach adulthood.
Social Studies-
We will be working on our mapping skills and learning about the components that make up the maps we use in this unit.
Our magazine sale continues on, so remember to sell magazines to assist in fundraising for the school!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are going to be held Friday, October 5, 2007. Don’t forget to sign up for a slot of time in between 2 and 7 p.m.
