We are currently working on lesson 18, which is all about polygons.  The students should be using the graph paper forms that I give them for their lessons.  By Wednesday 11/7, the class should finish lesson 18.  On Thursday we will go over lesson 19, and on Friday, lesson 20.  Next Monday will be a review for the test.  Tuesday 11/13 will be the test.

The students are allowed to use calculators and/or their multiplication table.

We just finished taking a test today.  We will be working on lessons 31-35 when we come back from Christmas break.  I have been disappointed with the large number of students who are not completing their homework assignments.  They do have math homework every night (with rare exceptions).  Please see to it that your son or daughter is setting aside time every night for math homework.  Getting better at math requires practice.  Homework is the chance to practice what we are learning.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas!

Happy New Year!  We are still working on Lessons 31-35.  Tomorrow we will do lesson 35, Wednesday will be a review for the test, and Thursday we will have our test.  Next week we will also be taking a second version of our Learnia on-line standardized test.  These tests will help us to see how far we've come at the end of the year.

Any help you can give your child in staying on top of the homework is greatly appreciated.  We have been learning many rules for performing mathematical operations with fractions, percents and decimals.  It is a lot to remember, so practice really helps!

We are wrapping up our mid-year Learnia testing this week.  We've had a few absences, and will need to make up some tests.  We took a regular test at the end of last week, and the scores were lower than usual for everyone.  We'll be doing some review work before moving on to the next set of lessons.  Please encourage your son or daughter to do their homework.  Practice is necessary for improvement!

This week we have been working on lessons 37-40 as well as some side trips about the standards related to testing.  We have had many kids (and staff members)out sick.  By Friday all lessons up to and including 39 are due.  Over the weekend, the students should be working on completing lesson 40 (all 30 problems).  Monday, Feb 11th we will review for our next test, and the kids will have practice for homework.  Tuesday will be the test.  We will then begin lessons 41-45.
Stay healthy!

Friday, Feb. 15, 2008

Our class has regularly had 1/3 - 1/2 of the students missing over the past couple weeks. It has been difficult to move too far forward.  Hopefully, this bug will pass us by soon.  We went over lesson 41, and they are supposed to finish it over the weekend.  The plan for next week is as follows: Tuesday (no school Monday!) we will go over lesson 42, on Wed. lesson 43, Thurs. lesson 44, and Friday lesson 45.  Lessons are due the day after we go over them in class.  the homework is to do 15 problems from that lesson.  So, if they did not get the lesson started in class, they are required to do 15 problems.  If they got 6 problems done in class they are required to do 21 problems total.  The 15 problems are in addition to whatever was completed in class.

Our next test will probably be Tuesday, Feb. 26.

I hope this is clear.  Enjoy your long Presidents' Day weekend!

Monday, February 25

Our next test will be Wednesday, Feb. 27.  Tomorrow we will be reviewing for the test and will have the tutors with us.  Tuesday evening, make sure your child goes over the test review to prepare.  On Thursday the 28th, we will begin Lesson 46.  The tutors will also be with us on Thursday, and will be available to go over the tests with any students who need to do that.
This Friday is the end of the second trimester.  Tuesday, March 4th is the start of a new trimester.  Please encourage your son or daughter to get the third tri off to a strong start by completing the math homework every night!

Wow--we are two thirds of the way through the year!
