Happy Marathon!  We hope you can join us.

On Marathon Day (tomorrow) we will begin doing our service projects here at Nicollet at 9:00.  At 10:30, we will be busing over to Penn.  The 4th graders are buddies with the preschool, and because few preschoolers participate in the marathon, most 4th graders will not meet their buddies tomorrow.  However, the 4th graders have the privilege of doing the prayer service in the afternoon, we will use the scheduled buddy time to practice.  We are asking 4th graders to bring their backpacks to school.  It is much easier to keep things together in the bag than around the church!!

If you have ordered hot lunch for Fri. Oct. 3, you will get it at the Penn campus tomorrow.  If you didn't order hot lunch for tomorrow, please bring a disposable bag lunch. (It is easier if we don't have to keep track of lunch boxes.)

It is green and gold day!!! Jeans are OK, BT spirit wear is OK, green and gold clothes are OK, uniforms are OK.

It's a good idea to bring a water bottle-labeled!!

Spelling, Lesson 5 is due this week.

Monday is picture day.  ALL students will have their picture taken-even if you aren't purchasing a package-so the pictures will be in the yearbook.

Monday is also Marathon $ collection day.

We will have the science test on Tuesday Oct. 7.  Flashcards were sent home Sept. 25.

Oct. 8-Mass is at Penn.

Oct. 9 is library day-bring your book.  It is also the Middle of the trimester.  Grades will be available online and onpaper soon.

Oct. 10 is Special Visitor's Day.  The 4th graders will be doing a short music program for their special visitor.  Spelling #5 is due today.

Sept 26, 2008

Science flashcards were sent home on 9/25.  It's a great idea to start studying right away.  The test will be the week of Oct. 6.

The model of the earth science project is due 9/29.  Requirements for this project follow.

Our final pledge collection sheet is due Wed. 10/1.  This Friday is the Marathon.  We will spend the entire day doing Marathon projects. All students will be dismissed from Penn Campus.  Please make arrangements to pick your child up from there if they don't go home on the bus.

Spelling #4 is due Friday 10/3.

Please remember to ask for the assignment notebook each day.  Talk about what's written in it.

Checking pens seem to disappear quickly.  Please check with your child to see if theirs need replacing.

Remember to return the spelling contracts.  If I don't have it, I will grade your child on the words/work I picked out for them.

Sept. 24, 2008  The following letter was on the back of the  Sept. 19, 4th grade scoop.

September 19, 2008

Dear Parents and 4th graders,

On Monday, Sept. 29, a project for science will be due.  Each student should make a model of the earth using materials of their choice.  Some suggestions are paint, cardboard, clay/play dough, food, Styrofoam, fabric.  The students have seen example projects in science class.  The four layers (crust 5-25 miles thick, mantle 1,750-1,800 miles thick, outer core 1,380miles thick, inner core-780 miles thick) should be labeled and represented proportionately (don’t make the crust appear to be the thickest part of the earth).
Students should also write two facts about any of the layers of the earth. The facts should be found from outside sources (not information obtained from class).  Write down your sources (include titles of books or articles, copyright dates and page numbers).  Write the facts on full size loose leaf paper to be handed in separately from the project.  Write where you got your information.  If you use a website, write the complete address.  The following areas will be graded:  accuracy of labels and proportions, neatness,  presentation-loud and clear and looking at audience, two facts written in complete sentences with good detail.    Students will be sharing their project with the class on Sept.29.

The science test on this chapter will be during the week of  Oct. 6, 2008.  Flashcards will be sent home Sept. 27.
