Only one half-quarter to go, but we’re still hard at work! Our topics for this week and next week include:
Religion – Learning about the domestic Church – our families – and the four cardinal virtues, as we each decided on the ingredients needed for a “Recipe for a Happy Family”. Now we’re seeing how God is always calling us, and how we can seek him through prayer. We’ll be showing our individual paths to God as our Chapter Project. Projects and take-home test are due on Friday, May 16. We’ll finish out the year learning about the Gospel of Mark.
Reading – Finishing up the Investigate unit in our Reading anthology with “The Big Storm”. Now we’re starting our final novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This week, we’ll be doing prework for the story and reviewing vocabulary, reading, and answering study guide questions for Chapters 1-4. Next week, we’ll be reading Chapters 5-9, deciding if the main character is a pioneer, and determining whether education is just the “3 R’s”.
Vocabulary – Finishing up the Unit 13-16 Review, and working on the end-of-year Cumulative Review.
Social Studies – Looking at inventions, big business, and unions in America, a new wave of immigration to the US, and how we acquired Alaska, Hawaii, and other territories. Now, we’re learning about the first half of the 20th century – the reform movement, Panama Canal, WWI, women’s right to vote, Great Migration, Roaring Twenties, stock market crash and Great Depression, the New Deal, and WWII. Whew!
