*Math Test Studying Tips:
It is very important for your child to take time to study for his/her test. Some tips to prepare for their test include the following:
· Study class notes – look at example problems and definitions/terms
· Review lessons – skim pages and look over important concepts (bold printed text)
· Go over old homework assignments – review strategies on how he/she solved homework problems
Religion – 5th Grade
For the month of November the fifth graders will continue to explore the celebration of Baptism. They will learn that water is an importation sign of Baptism, and the baptized begin their new life as children of God. Furthermore, they will learn that throughout the liturgical year we remember and celebrate the life of Christ. We will begin our study of the liturgical year by understanding that Ordinary Time is a special season to learn about the life of Jesus and his followers. There will be a test after Chapter 5 and a Unit 1 Test after Chapter 7. Please encourage you child to study the chapter review that is completed in class at the end of each chapter (students work on it independently, we check it together, and they take it home to use as a study guide for the test).
Vocabulary – 5th Grade
For the month of November, the fifth graders will cover Unit 5 and Unit 6. For the first 4 – 5 days of the Unit(s), they will be expected to complete the activities from the book for homework. All Vocabulary homework should be completed in ink and written in cursive. After completing the pages from each unit, they will be asked to make flashcards of the vocabulary words (word on one side and definition on the other), make their own sentences for the vocabulary words, and complete their Vocabulary Words Chart (they must fill out the word, definition, 2 synonyms, 2 antonyms, and an illustration). Additionally, they will write a composition about a given topic that uses at least 6 vocabulary words (they will be graded with a rubric that will be handed to them the day the writing project is assigned). Lastly, they will have their spelling test on all 12 vocabulary words. Spelling tests are given every two weeks on Fridays. Students must be able to identify the given word by listening to the definition as I read it orally and writing it down (spelled correctly). I encourage you to help you child study and prepare for the spelling test. Some suggestions are using the flashcards and/or practice giving him/her the test so he/she can identify the words he/she needs to work on.
