WELCOME BACK

Dear Parents,

     It is with pleasure that I welcome you and your child to the third grade this year. This is a critical year because it is the first benchmark grade at which students are subject to special consideration for promotion. Our goal is to make sure that every student achieves great success. Working together will help us achieve this common goal of excellence for your child.
     Learning to read fluently, critically and independently is the single most important task your child has this year. The reading instructional program will utilize a wide variety of materials and activities to insure that your child become a successful reader.  Some ways you can help your child be a better reader include the following:

*Read aloud with your child every day.
*Have your child read to you.
*Question your child about story details.
*Review your child’s reading” Homework” with him/her.
*Take your child to the library.

     Grades will reflect an accumulation and average of the work done during a marking period including, but not limited to the following: homework, classroom participation, regular classroom assignments. The following scale will be used to determine student’s grades.

A=90-100
B=80-89
C=70-79
D=60-69
F= 59 and below
Homework will be given “Every Night” including weekends: Reading, Math, Language Arts and the other subject areas. Every Friday you will receive a packet of graded papers, please check the papers to determine what subject areas your child needs more assistance with. Sign the assignment sheet and return the empty folder every Monday.

Other information regarding the curriculum, discipline, and classroom regulations will be discussed in detail on Parent Night.

Thank you and let’s have a Good School Year.

Ms. K. Lanham
