There will be spelling words given the first day of the week. For the first half of the year, there will be 10 words and 5 challenge words. By the third quarter, all 15 words will be required.
Students should practice these words nightly. I only assign "5 times each" written practice once. Other spelling homework will be pages that ask the student to sort the words in various ways. If your child needs more practice in order to memorize the words, have her/him write the words or spell them aloud for you!
A math page will be sent home every night as well. In math we will be learning addition facts, time, and money. Please use every opportunity to have your child practice these skills. For example, have your child count your change at the store or tell you what time it is.
Please check your child's planner every night for homework and reminders.

** New this year: Arabic class. Durkin Park has added Arabic language class to the general education schedule. Room 103 will be taught beginning Arabic language on Tuesdays. The alphabet, sounds and simple words/phrases will be covered. Please see Mrs. Al-Zubi for more information.
Field trip: Our first field trip will be Oct. 17th. We are going to a play called Mammoth Follies at Governor's State University. The cost will be $6. We will not need additional chaperones for the event.
