We've had a fun couple of weeks here in the Spanish Department celebrating Latino culture for Cinco de Mayo. 8th graders put on a play about animals for their first grade buddies. 7th graders put on two plays, one about colors and the other about vegetables, for the Kindergarteners. 5th graders had a contest for the best Cinco de Mayo Rap and the winners were featured on the Monday Morning Video segment. Also featured were second graders dancing a South American "baile", Kindergarteners doing the Mexican Hat dance, and the actors in our plays. Third graders had a Mexican pottery coloring contest. The winners, as well as the 7th graders' Mayan masks and the 5th graders' Cuņa art will be laminated and featured in our Spanish room next year. First graders studied Mexico's Maps and created a Mexican Village on paper. Second graders studied and made the Mexican flag. Kindergarteners had fun making maracas. 4th and 8th graders decorated our school with "Papel Picado" tissue paper art. All classes had instructional material related to Cinco de Mayo and had fun with word searches, crossword puzzles and contests. On Cinco de Mayo we had a special Monday Morning video feature, a special Mexican hot lunch menu, with a decorated multi-purpose room and Latino music to add festivity. Some of members of our school choir led the Morning prayer on the P.A. system, singing "Vienen Con Alegria". What a wonderful time we've had!!
The last two weeks of Spanish instruction will be finishing up important textbook materials and playing review board games. There will be no homework assignments.
Thank you for your interest, support and encouragement throughout this 2007-2008 school year. May your summer be blessed with many memories of fun and delight in God's creation.
Sincerely,
Seņora McCormick
