Eighth Grade Music -- October 613 2008

     On Monday, October 13, 2008, the students will have a test on the Introduction to Music.

     These are the questions that the students need to study for the test on Monday, October 13, 2008.

1.  Where do we find music?
2.  How long has music been around?
3.  For what was most of the early music of Europe written?
4.  About 1600 A.D. for what was more and more European music written? (2)
5.  What two elements make up music?
6.  What is sound?
7.  What is a tone?
8.  What is pitch?
9,  What is frequency?
10.  How is the pitch of a tone shown?
11.  Each tone lasts a certain length of time.  How is this certain length of time expressed in music?
12.  What is a pause between tones called?
13.  Besides sounds and silences, what three other elements make up music?
14.  What is rhythm?
15.  What is tempo?
16.  What is melody?
17.  What is harmony?
18.  What is serious music called?
19.  What is musical theater?
20.  What is ballet?
21.  What is an opera?
22.  What is popular music?

     After the test, we will take a look at music in the Middle Ages.  With the study of each new age the students will need to turn in three wanted posters -- one on three different composers of the age. The wanted posters are to be done on regular copy paper -- 8 1/2 by ll.  The wanted posters will be collected at the next music class.  

     There will also be questions that the students will need to answer on the age being studied.  The questions are due on Wednesday mornings following the Monday class.
