Monday-In class we completed our escape velocity lab begun on Friday.  Students must graph the data generated from the lab, including the averages of all flights.

OOCE: (due next class period)
1. Complete Chapter 19: Section 5 assessment on page 691 (write answers only please)
2. Complete bottom portion of lab sheet and graph lab data

Tuesday/Wednesday-In class we will look at space measurement and begin our discussion of the Cost of Space Exploration.  Students will receive Part I of the Space Exploration Costs project. Students received 30 minutes of in class time to develop an outline for the project.  Students received a project guideline sheet for completion of Part I.

OOCE:
1. Research for Part I of Space Exploration Project.  
Part I is due on Monday for Blocks 3/5 and Tuesday for Blocks 4/6.  Space Exploration: Part I requires students to assess the value of Space Exploration by responding to a three part question.  Full details are found on page 718 of the text (students received a printed version of this page as well).

Thursday/Friday-In class we will continue to look at our solar system and beyond by taking a close look at the characteristics of our star the Sun.

OOCE:

SOCIAL STUDIES/MS. ODEN

Students should complete the Cold War questions- if  not completed  in class.  Be prepared to discuss the questions in class on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12th and 13th. .

The WW2 notebook, America Enters WW2, Major WW2 battles, and the  Atomic Bomb packets, and also the  military leaders worksheet, will all be due on Monday and Tuesday, May 18th, and 19th.(we completed all of these assignments in class)

The unit test for WW2 will be given on Monday and Tuesday, May 18th, and 19th.

May 4 to May 8

COMMUNICATION ARTS- Mrs. White
Mon./Tues.- We began work on our final portfolio, the Writer's Scrapbook. Students got back all of their work from middle school. We also went over all of the requirements for the final project.  The second part of class was devoted to individual work and organization of materials. Homework- finish book club book for Friday and finish Rick Reilly article for Friday.

Wed./Thurs.- We worked on Writer's Scrapbooks in lab 3. Homework-Finish book club book for Friday and finish Rick Reilly article for Friday.

Friday- Turn in Rick Reilly Articles and attach the rubric. Meet with book club to discuss book. You may bring snacks for your group as long as they do not become a distraction.

April 27 to May 1

COMMUNICATION ARTS- Mrs. White
Mon./Tues.- Intro. to editorials and opinion articles. We read background info. on Rick Reilly (sports writer for ESPN mag. and former writer for Sports Illustrated). We read 4 articles by Reilly and discussed format. Writer's Workshop- Students came up with their own topic and began drafts.
Homework- Finish rough draft

Wed./Thurs.- Meet in the library and/or computer lab to work on Reilly article. Discuss craft of writing. Homework- revise and edit paper

Final papers are due on Friday, May 8. Next week we will be working on scrapbooks. If you need to stay after for Power Hour to finish, please make arrangements for that.

In class we looked at The relationship between the Earth, Sun, and Moon in causing tides and eclipses.  We also turned in our completed Natural Resources assignments.

We continued our mini unit with a closer look at the moon.  The class period ended with an exciting game of Jeopardy in preparation for our unit test on Mon for Blocks 3/5 and Tuesday for Blocks 4/6.

Fri:  Due to the half day we will have 25 minute class periods.  we will utilize this time to prepare for out test on Mon/Tues

Students were allowed time in class to complete the internet activity on Pearl Harbor, but should complete this assignment at home if they did not finish it-due on Monday and Tuesday, May4th and 5th.

Mon/Tues: In class we will look at the concepts of gravity and inertia as we begin our final unit of the academic year Exploring Our Universe.  Students completed a gravity and inertia acivity in class and were assigned an additional reinforcing actity.

Wed/Thurs:  We will continue ur look at the solar system with a review of planetary motion in our solar system.

Fri:  We will look at the motion of objects in our solar system, including a close study of the relationship between the Sun, Earth, and Moon.

Ms. Oden Social Studies

My goal is to complete all assignments in class during the two testing weeks, but please encourage your child to turn in the notebook for WW1 and/or the 20's and 60's comparison/contrast project if they have not already done so.

We are beginning a study of WW2 where we will learn the causes of the war,the policies of the Axis participants, how countries were aligned, major battles, causes of the U.S. entering the conflict, and the effects of WW2 on future events.

MARCH 30 to APRIL 3

COMMUNICATION ARTS- Mrs. White
Class information- We are no longer doing 5 pages a week in Writer's Notebooks. We are now doing Final Fridays. Students will
1. pick one notebook entry on Monday
2. revise, edit, perfect, type through the week
3. turn in the final copy on Friday

EVERYONE SHOULD BE MEMORIZING THEIR POETRY COFFEEHOUSE POEM!

Mon./Tues.- We did poetry term stations to review sound devices and figurative language. Students have a packet with notes. Homework- use the notes to analyze song lyrics. Pick a school appropriate song, label any of the sound devices or figurative language. (We did an example in class). These are due on Wed./Thurs.

Wed./Thurs.- In class students shared song lyrics and explained the poetry terms found in them. 5th hour had the deadline for this moved to Friday. We took a quiz over sound devices and figurative language. Homework- Final Friday papers due Friday.

Friday- Collect Final Friday papers. Homework- write "Life is" metaphor poem. Due Monday.

OOCE:  Young Canyon Made of Old Layers

Wed/Thurs:  We will complete our Geologic Time Scale Activity and utilize this information to identify fossils from different Periods within the time scale.

OOCE: Finding Clues in Rock Layers

Fri:  Fossils and Rock layers are on the agenda for today!  

OOCE: Complete all Fossil work.  This will be collected on Mon/Tues.


Social Studies-Ms. Oden Week of 3/30-4/3

Notebooks for WW1 and the 20's and 60's Comparison Contrast project is due on Wednesday 4/1 for 3rd and 5th blocks,  (exception-5th hour notebooks are due on Friday, 4/3) , and on Thursday, 4/2, for 4th and 6th blocks.
