Tuesday/Wednesday-In class we will look at space measurement and begin our discussion of the Cost of Space Exploration. Students will receive Part I of the Space Exploration Costs project. Students received 30 minutes of in class time to develop an outline for the project. Students received a project guideline sheet for completion of Part I.

The WW2 notebook, America Enters WW2, Major WW2 battles, and the Atomic Bomb packets, and also the military leaders worksheet, will all be due on Monday and Tuesday, May 18th, and 19th.(we completed all of these assignments in class)
The unit test for WW2 will be given on Monday and Tuesday, May 18th, and 19th.

Mon./Tues.- We began work on our final portfolio, the Writer's Scrapbook. Students got back all of their work from middle school. We also went over all of the requirements for the final project. The second part of class was devoted to individual work and organization of materials. Homework- finish book club book for Friday and finish Rick Reilly article for Friday.
Wed./Thurs.- We worked on Writer's Scrapbooks in lab 3. Homework-Finish book club book for Friday and finish Rick Reilly article for Friday.
Friday- Turn in Rick Reilly Articles and attach the rubric. Meet with book club to discuss book. You may bring snacks for your group as long as they do not become a distraction.

Mon./Tues.- Intro. to editorials and opinion articles. We read background info. on Rick Reilly (sports writer for ESPN mag. and former writer for Sports Illustrated). We read 4 articles by Reilly and discussed format. Writer's Workshop- Students came up with their own topic and began drafts.
Homework- Finish rough draft
Wed./Thurs.- Meet in the library and/or computer lab to work on Reilly article. Discuss craft of writing. Homework- revise and edit paper
Final papers are due on Friday, May 8. Next week we will be working on scrapbooks. If you need to stay after for Power Hour to finish, please make arrangements for that.

My goal is to complete all assignments in class during the two testing weeks, but please encourage your child to turn in the notebook for WW1 and/or the 20's and 60's comparison/contrast project if they have not already done so.
We are beginning a study of WW2 where we will learn the causes of the war,the policies of the Axis participants, how countries were aligned, major battles, causes of the U.S. entering the conflict, and the effects of WW2 on future events.

EVERYONE SHOULD BE MEMORIZING THEIR POETRY COFFEEHOUSE POEM!
Mon./Tues.- We did poetry term stations to review sound devices and figurative language. Students have a packet with notes. Homework- use the notes to analyze song lyrics. Pick a school appropriate song, label any of the sound devices or figurative language. (We did an example in class). These are due on Wed./Thurs.
Wed./Thurs.- In class students shared song lyrics and explained the poetry terms found in them. 5th hour had the deadline for this moved to Friday. We took a quiz over sound devices and figurative language. Homework- Final Friday papers due Friday.
Friday- Collect Final Friday papers. Homework- write "Life is" metaphor poem. Due Monday.
