FOURTH GRADE
"Schoolhouse Rock" rehearsals in school and after school have begin. I will be sending my 1st parent letter home with students on January 29th or 30th. Those student who will need to be staying after school have already received a calendar for January and a calendar for February. Please make note of their rehearsal dates. All rehearsals are on Mon or Thurs from 3-4pm. Please pick up students at the front door.
Also, as I am ordering recorders for 3rd graders soon, I'm allowing 4th graders to order, too. Orders need to be in by February 12th (thursday). They are $3.00 each.
THIRD GRADE
We have just finished a wonderful Black History unit featuring Martin Luther King and many others. We explored Code Songs, Zipper Songs, Call/Response Songs, Civil Rights songs, and Spirituals. We heard part of the "I Have a Dream" speech given by Dr. King at the same time as we read it. We also studied the book and Reading Rainbow video of "Follow the Drinking Gourd". Now we are starting an Americana unit featuring other American Folk songs, old fashioned games, dances and customs. We will also write "Similes" and old fashioned parodies.
KINDERGARTEN
Both schools are working on "Getting Down with Mama Goose", a jazzy, musical version of some of our favorite nursery rhymes. Dates haven't been set yet, but Northwest's will probably be in late March and EW's in mid-April.
