Classroom procedures are listed below.
Homework: Homework will be assigned Mondays through Thursdays and occasionally on weekends and over holidays. Homework may be graded on a random basis. An incentive program will encourage your child to complete his or her assignments.
Tests: Spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension tests will be given weekly. Unit tests will be administered upon completion of the unit. Talking during a test or a quiz will result in a failing grade (zero).
Organization/Participation: The first 20 minutes of class will be dedicated to Silent-Sustained Reading (SSR) and Reading Response. Each student must select an age-appropriate, fiction book to bring to class daily. This counts as 15% of their grade for the nine weeks period.
Students will be required to maintain an organized binder. The binder will count as 15% of their nine weeks grade in English. Assignments, graded tests, reading logs, notes, journal entries, and writing will be included in their binder.
E-mail: Feel free to e-mail me with any concerns at gabrielle.kernion@stpsb.org. It is extremely helpful to be able to contact parents via email. Please be sure to fill out your e-mail address in the below form.
