Mrs. Shurlds Monday Memo May 5, 2008
MY WEB SITE: www.schoolnotes.com/70461/gshurlds.html
For parents: This week your child will learn: addition and subtraction of fractions; decimals; writing for a purpose;
adverbs; enrichment about Degas, Thales, and Fibonacci; vocabulary enrichment; group problem solving; story evaluation Textbook and other references: language, reading, math, and social studies/science textbooks Homework practice: practice and enrichment math sheets assigned on a daily basis; practice all multiplication facts and all previous facts; spelling and/or vocabulary list.
Thanks to all the parents who sent snacks, drinks, and goodies for Max’s last day. He was deeply appreciative of everything.
On Friday, we will conclude our Degas adverb unit with printmaking using “real” printer’s ink. Printer’s ink does stain. Please send an old t-shirt (preferably belonging to a parent, so that more clothing will be covered) by Friday. Also, if your student has old khakis that are nearly outgrown or are nearly worn out, Friday is a good day to wear them! (Shorts are a good choice)
This week:
Tuesday: Language test over Unit 13 with a pretest the previous day.
Wednesday: Math test over Chapter 10 with a pretest the previous day.
Thursday: There will not be an oral or editing format spelling test this week. Instead, a spelling abc order assessment over selected words from The Mousewife will be completed in class Thursday. You will be given a list of words to alphabetize. They will need to be alphabetized correctly as well as spelled correctly. There will not be a reading test this week. We will have an in-class assignment over the story of the week from Junior Great Books, The Mousewife.
Friday: DOL editing test.
