Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to my second grade class room. I am a Slidell resident. I have a B.A. in elementary education. I received my degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. This is my ninth year teaching, my seventh at Honey Island. My classroom is room 108.
Homework:
A homework sheet will come home with your student on Friday’s in the weekly folder. (if it not sent on Fri., look for it Mon.) The homework sheet will list spelling words, vocabulary words, homework for the week, and any special notes. Homework will be due the day after it is assigned. (Monday’s homework is due on Tuesday, etc.) If for some reason homework can not be complete please write a note and complete the following night. Please check and sign homework every night.
Friday Folder:
Graded papers will be sent home on Friday’s. Please review all tests. Any test with the grade D or F need to be signed and returned to school on Monday. You may keep all of the other test. This folder will also contain a behavior grade and a place for you to sign.
Daily Folder:
Each student will keep a Take Home Folder that will go back and forth to school each day. Put any notes, homework, or lunch money in this folder. Check this folder daily for notes and classwork,
Grading:
The grading policy for St. Tammany Parish is as follows: 92-100 A, 83-91 B, 74-82 C, 65-73 D, 0-64 F. You will receive an interim report in the middle of the nine weeks ONLY if your child is failing, or in danger of failing.
Behavior:
We are using CHAMP'S schoolwide this school year. A letter with classroom expectations and consequences will be sent home in the next few weeks.
Conferences:
I would like to welcome you to conference with me about your child. I have enclosed an interest survey that I would like for you to fill out to help me learn more about your child. Extras:
I plan to send home monthly order forms for you to buy books for your child if you would like. There are usually a few books for about $1 a piece. This is an inexpensive way to build a library at home for your child. It usually takes two weeks for the books to arrive once ordered. Please send exact change or write a check to Scholastic. I will also hold any books you wish to give as a gift until you can pick it up, just send a note.
Breakfast/ Lunch:
The school prints out menus every month that will be sent home with your child, it is also posted on the school website. Lunch money is due on Monday. Please send it in a sealed enevelope with your students name, lunch number, teacher’s name, and amount. If you wish to come for lunch sign in at the office and meet the class by the cafeteria.
Snacks:
We will have a snack break every day. Please send in a healthy snack. Please do not send soda or candy as a snack.
Transportation:
Please make sure your child knows his/her bus number, driver, and address. The office requires written notice if your child is to go home on another bus or stay at after school care. Please make sure all notes are signed and dated.
