Dear parents,

Wednesday, November 11th has been designated as Teacher Inservice Day.  Students do not attend on that day.

If you did not have a chance to order the yearbook, this year you can order our Milton yearbook with your credit card through Jostens.  If you press on this link, it will take you directly to a secure server to make your purchase.  http://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A03089400
We are also in need of used/old Christmas wrapping papers for a Christmas project.  We would appreciate it if you would send them with your first grader if you would like to get rid of them.

Have a wonderful week.

Ms. Phillips

Please click on the link above for the list of Spelling words.  We are currently working on Unit 12: Review Units 7 - 11.

For the next few weeks, we will work on Unit 2: Exploring Addition, Subtraction, and Patterns.  This unit focuses on  the concepts of joining (part-part-whole) and separating for sums up to ten.  Students will demonstrate that they understand these concepts by building sets with concrete objects, interpreting written equations, and writing their own equations to represent a given real-life situation.  They will be able to use a number line to find the answer to an equation and demonstrate they understand the commmutative property of addition.  Students will demonstrate that they are able to copy, extend, create, and explain a pattern.  Number sense will be extended with numbers up to 50.

This week we will learn to add 3 numbers.

This week we will identify Proper Nouns that name people, animals, things, and places.  We will also learn to distinguish between singular and plural nouns.

Please continue to have your first grader practice identifying the naming and action parts, beginning, and end punctuation of a complete sentence.  Questions begin with question words such as Who, Which, Why, How, etc.  This can be done when they are creating sentences with the Spelling words.

Social Living:  For the next few weeks, we will be working on Unit 1: My Role as a Citizen.  This unit focuses on the student as a citiizen, the importance of rules and how they are made and enforced, the roles and responsibilities of citizens, and the roles of leaders and how they are elected.   Workers, their jobs, and their roles as consumers are also addressed.

Social Living: This week, we will learn to identify the tools the community workers use to do their jobs.
