*Did I remember to pack by Student Planner? CLASSROOM MATERIALS (CM) conduct mark if you forget to bring your Student Planner to school. (beginning 11/30/11)
**********It is MANDATORY that I bring my Student Planner to school each day. I will have my Parents initial my Student Planner each night. My Student Planner is my HOME/SCHOOL Connection. I write my homework in my student planner daily, as well as other very important information that my Parents need to know. (Thank you for your support, Parents.)

****If your child is a Milton 4-H Club member, your child's 4-H project book is due to Mrs. Kee by Thursday, February 23, 2012.
****OPTIONAL Valentine card drop/candy drop will be on Tuesday, February 14, in our classroom before your child leaves school that day. There are 23 students in our class.****
 *Spelling - HW for Thurs., 2/9/12: ***Spelling Bee Pledge Form is due Tues., 2/7/12; ***Have your child practice the whole page of Spelling Bee words OUT LOUD each night to prepare for our ORAL Spelling Bee class competition on Monday, 2/13/12. (If I run out of words on our Spelling Bee handout, I will call out words from page H65 in our English textbook and page 352 in our Spelling textbook. Your child may look over these words over the weekend to prepare for our class bee on Monday.)
*Math- HW for Thurs., 2/9/12:  Memorize x10 for Multiplication Quiz on Friday, 2/10/12; *Students, don't forget to have your parents initial the problems you and your parents didn't understand. 
 *English - HW for Thurs., 2/9/12:  No HW
 *Reading -  Thurs., 2/9/12:  Read your A.R. book 30 min. each day.
*Science- Thurs., 2/9/12:  HW:  Study Guide - Test Fri., 2/10/12; A Science STUDY GUIDE was taped or stapled in your child's Student Planner on Tues., 2/7/12. Please study with your child each night; Test:  Fri., 2/10/12.
*Social Studies- No HW.
!!!!After January 1, 2012, the Yearbooks will be $42.00. You may send a check payable to Milton Elementary School or purchase your yearbook online through Jacket Journal.

**Milton 4-H Club News: 
*Mrs. Kee will meet with 4-H Club officers on Thursday, Feb. 9th before school at 7:30 A.M. to finalize our meeting agenda for our January 4-H meeting.
*Our February Milton 4-H Club meeting will be held Friday, February 10th, 8:45 - 9:45 A.M. in the cafeteria.
*Well done, all participants of the Milton Christmas Cookie Contest! 4-H members "Learn by doing!"
*******Well done, Milton 4-H Club! I am already getting EXCELLENT reports on your performances at Fall Fest! I will have announcements made over the school intercom and post your successful achievements on our 4-H Bulletin Board as soon as I get all of your results in. Great job, 4-H members!  Mrs. Kee
*4-H Fall Fest was Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Evangeline Elementary.

Fall Fest is the 1st big 4-H contest day of the school year. ****Winner of contests are usually announced around 11:30-12 Noon. Ribbons are given out at that time. Some ribbons are sent to school. If your child wins a ribbon, and your child is not there to receive it, I will give your child their ribbon when it is sent to Milton from our 4-H agents. I expect the agent to bring your child their ribbon at our December 4-H meeting on Friday, December 9,2011.
*The Christmas Cookie Contest will be held Friday, December 2, 2011. There will be three categories which you will be able to enter. Begin thinking about which category you would like to enter. You may enter all three, BUT you must have three different cookies. You cannot enter the same cookie in all three categories. Bring your Christmas Cookie to the BAND ROOM between 7:25 and 7:45 A.M.  After your cookie is judged that morning, you must pick up your cookie by 10:00 A.M. Winners will be announced. You may want to bake your cookie on Wed., 11/30/11 and decorate it on Thurs., 12/1/11 to have your Christmas Cookie completed for Friday, 12/2/11.
TIP:  You may want to make a "tent" for your cookie with toothpics and foil so the icing does not get messed up prior to judging!
One change in the categories!!! There is one "NEW" category this year:
*Tastiest Christmas Cookie (new category)
Prettiest Christmas Cookie
Most Unusual Christmas Cookie
Remember:
***No store bought cookies can be entered.
Most importantly...the judges are judging for the decoration of your cookie for all three categories. They will judge for TASTE in the Tastiest Christmas Cookie category by tasting your cookie. You may bring your cookie home at the end of the day, or you may share it with your last hour class if your teacher permits.

*Parents, please check the second to last page of your child's Student Planner. I wrote down their 6W3 goal on 11/7/11.
**** Please call the office to set up a time to receive your Parent Portal ID number to log online to check your child's current grades if you wish to do so.
*It is a pleasure to work with your sweet children each day! 
* A new Scholastic form was sent home with Signed Papers on Wednesday, November 9th. Thank you for ordering books, parents! Please DO NOT send cash. Checks or money orders are to be made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. It is written on your Scholastic order form. We received new books for our class library due to your order.  We appreciate having new books for your children to read!
  Readers are Leaders!
  
*If your child has belt loops on their bottoms, they must wear a belt. No belt ... Lunch Detention. Keep your belt near your shoes at home, Kee West Wranglers! We're in October 2011. We know the rules.
*Please send a lightweight jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt WITHOUT A hood for your child to wear in our classroom when they get cold due to our air conditioner in our room. In your gray Student/Parent Handbook from the Lafayette Parish School System, 2011-2012, it states on page 9 under OUTERWEAR:  "Sweatshirts must be long-sleeved and cannot have hoods or uni-pockets**(NO HOODIES)**. I am very considerate to adjust the air temperature as needed for a comfortable learning environment each day.
 
*Parents, please mark your calendars for January 2012: 
1. 6W4 begins Tuesday, January 10, 2012.
2. Students are to have their Student Planners at school each day for home/school communication.
3. Parents, please check Schoolnotes daily. I post our homework, tests, and other information there.
 
 ***Our class Library time will be on Mondays, 9:40 - 10:10 A.M.
***Our class Music time will be on Tuesdays, 9:40 - 10:10 A.M.
*Water bottles are encouraged. They must be plastic and non-leaking.
*Milton school Spirit shirts may be worn with uniform bottoms and a belt on Fridays!

Lunch Memos:
*Lunch for fourth graders will be from 10:40 - 11:10 A.M. daily, Parents. Please encourage your child to eat breakfast each day.
*A parent who may choose to eat lunch with their child for a day: Visiting Adult fee is $3.50
*Lunch Money will be needed daily. LPSS No-Charge Policy.
*Your child may choose to bring their lunch from home.
***School lunch payments may be paid online. The web address is www.SchoolPaymentSolutions.com 
*Regular Breakfast is $1.25 and Regular Lunch is $1.50 daily.
Attendance:
**If your child is absent, PLEASE call the office by 10 A.M. to request homework for your child. Thank you for making arrangements to pick up the homework by the end of the school day that they are absent. The office is closed at 3:15 P. M. If your child has a sibling at Milton, let the office know when you call for homework. Tell them the Teacher and Grade of the sibling. I will send the homework home with the sibling. Many thanks!
*Send doctor's excuses with your child or FAX doctor's excuses to the office within a week of an absence.
*If your child is absent, and does not go to a doctor, please send me a note as to why your child was absent. (ex. stomach virus, ect.)
*Students are counted as Tardy when they check- in during the first 25 minutes of school; a check-in following that time is counted as an absence.
Music for Fourth Graders:
*Parents, your child takes music class each Tuesday, from 9:40 - 10:10 A.M. to learn how to play their recorder. They need to practice playing their recorder during the week...every week. Mrs. Hahn will assign HOMEWORK for them to practice. I will remind students to bring their recorders home on the weekends to practice for their music class.
 
Treats and Parties:
*School parties are limited to Christmas and Easter.
*The Parish has madated NO individual birthday TREATS are allowed.
*Birthday invites may be passed out at school only if ALL class members  or the entire gender of the class will receive an invite.
Dress Code:
*Dress Code changes:  Belts may not have metal detailing other than belt buckles. Shorts, skorts, and skirts are to be no more than 4" above the knee. Black socks are now acceptable. Sock length is no longer addressed.
*Safety Measures for MEMS:
1. LPSS has asked all school personnel to discontinue any electronic communication (facebook, twitter, texts, emails, calls...) with STUDENTS. (This excludes school sponsored activities communication.)
2. MEMS will allow a fax or signed  parent note  to CHANGE your child's dismissal procedure. Phone calls will no longer be an acceptable method to change your child's regular procedure for returning home. Please understand this for safety reasons.
*Students may begin arriving at 7:25 A.M. ( Remember...not earlier than 7:25 A.M.!)
*Homeroom Tardy Bell is 7:55 A.M.
*After School Care and First Bus load dismissal begins at 2:55 P.M.

Academic Round-Up:
 Reading:
Reading HW (see QUICK GLANCE at the top of this page):  HW:   Read A. R. book 30 min. to work toward your 6W3 A. R. goal;  
*HW:  Read your Guided Reading group book in your clear blue folder. Write a paragraph (#2, Make Up Questions and Give Answers) about your favorite part of the book you read in your green stapled packet in your clear blue folder; I will meet with ALL groups, this week, January 9, 2012.
 *Running Records were completed on each student in my class, Tuesday, September 13, 2011.

***HW:  Read your A.R. book at least 30 minutes EVERY night!
Accelerated Reading (A.R.) 6W3 began Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Your child may take an A. R. test in my class each day as soon as they arrive in my classroom.
 
Parents, please refer to REN Connect to monitor your child's progress in Accelerated Reading.  

Your child will have a reading comprehension test each week as a reading grade. Sometimes it may be in Science or Social Studies, as well.
Library:
*If your child has LOST their Milton School Library Card it will cost $3.00 to replace it. Please ask your child about this. I have called out the names of the cards that the students returned to the Milton Library at the end of last year. I have these cards in our classroom. Some student's cards were not in our class pile. Thank you, Parents, for asking your child about their Milton Library Card.
We will be going to the library at school this week to check out books. Your child will check out two AR books. Please make sure that your child has at least one of the AR books that they are reading at school each day. One book at home and one book at school is fine. We drop everything and read (D.E.A.R.) at the end of the day while waiting for first load bus announcements or when your child is an early finisher in class.

***Our class is reading a class novel We will read our class novel when all students are present. 

Math:
Math HW (see QUICK GLANCE at the top of this page to see what your HW is tonight):     Study your multiplication "dog" handout tonight!  Thank you, Mrs. Kee
 Students are encouraged to make Multiplication Flash Cards in preparation for their Multiplication tests! I showed them how to make Flash Cards from a sheet of looseleaf. (Math Multiplication laminated card is to KEEP AT HOME to memorize. A different Multiplication sheet with a "dog" on it is to KEEP AT SCHOOL in your yellow Mathematics folder.)
    Parents, continue to work with your child this month on "Memorizing their Multiplication Facts." Please help your child memorize these facts at home. They are trying to earn their "star" on our "Multiply, Partner!" class bulletin board.

Each nine week period - the Writing Process:  Brainstorming, Rough Draft, Editing, Final Draft, and Presentation (at times). 9W1 Descriptive Scarecrow Brainstorm, Rough Draft, and Final Draft.

 Science:
HW (see QUICK GLANCE at the top of this page to see what your HW is going to be for tonight):  Our SCIENCE SPIN, Weekly Reader magazine, has come in! We will have another Science Spin Lesson and an Open Magazine Quiz this week.It is most likely that your child will have a Science Study Guide for their science tests. They need to study their Study Guides every night. Study Guides will be in their stapled in their Student Planner or they will put it in their green folder. Thank you for your help and support. 
 
 
 
 Social Studies:

We will take Weekly Reader QUIZZES for Science (Science Spin) and Social Studies (Current Events). It will be an OPEN Weekly Reader magazine QUIZ. 
We will have another Social Studies Weekly Reader lesson and open magazine quiz this week.
