Reading- Theme 10-"Work that Matters"- vocabulary; word families-oil, oy; expository writing; irregular verbs
Language and writing- abc order; encyclopedia skills; dictionary skills; report (expository) writing
Spelling- vowel sounds in 'boot' and 'took' Unit 22: boot took new moon blew book soon grew foot room you who look good shampoo balloon
dictation quiz Friday
Math- -9; money- adding in half-dollar and dollar amounts; practice counting coins with your child
Social Living- government
HOMEWORK: Signed papers go home every Wednesday. Review them, make corrections if desired (NO erasing please), then sign and return the papers to school.
Homework will be assigned Mon-Thurs.
No Friday or holiday homework is given.
Read 20 to 30 minutes nightly.
Study spelling words nightly and/or practice spelling words using the favorite links. Put in current unit to practice those words.
Memorize math facts + and - 0 to 10 using flashcard or favorite links.
Practice several nights a week using favorites links which cover spelling words, math facts, and various skills we are studying in class.
Usually a math page from the workbook in the binder or a worksheet is given nightly for homework
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
SCHEDULE/TIMES: *Students may enter campus no earlier than 7:25.
*Lunch will be at 12:15 for 2nd graders. Please encourage your child to eat breakfast.
*Signed paper day has changed to Wednesdays.
ATTENDANCE: *Deliver or fax doctor's excuses within a week of an absence.
*Students are counted as tardy when checking in during the first 25 minutes of school; a check-in following that time is counted as an absence.
GRADES: *Spelling will be included as 10% of the Language grade. Reading, Language, Math and Social Living will show a report card grade. Music and PE will be an E, S, N or U. Conduct and Reading Level will be a comment.
*You will receive your Infinite Campus user name and password after viewing the video. More times on those video presentations to come. Your portal into this grading system will allow you to see your child's attendance and grades at any time!
TREATS and PARTIES: *School parties are limited to Christmas and Easter.
*The parish has mandated NO individual birthday parties OR TREATS are allowed. The policy is very strict especially concerning foods, so no other treats, foods, king cakes... are allowed. Birthday invitations may be passed out at school only if all class members or the entire gender of the class will receive an invite.
DRESS CODE: *Dress code changes: Belts may not have metal detailing other than belt buckles. Shorts, skorts, and skirts are to be no more that 4" above the knee. Black socks are now acceptable. Sock length is no longer addressed.
MISC: *Water bottles are encouraged.
*Spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays!
The school board has resumed the fingerprinting, background checks, etc. for level 3 volunteers. Thanks to those who have been trained and those who are trying!

Safety measures for MEMS:
1. LPSS has asked all school personnel to discontinue any electronic communication (facebooks, twitters, texts, emails, calls...) with students. This excludes school sponsored activities communication.
2. MEMS will allow a fax or signed parent note to change your child's dismissal procedure. PHONE CALLS will no longer be an acceptable method to change your child's regular procedure for returning home. Please understand this is for safety reasons!
