***Thanks for visiting!! Please also be sure to check the agendas of your third/fourth/fifth grade vocal student for daily entries.
*PreK-Second Grade Vocal students will be with me until November 21st. Ask your child to sing and play our games with you. First and second grade should be able to show you how to write a few things called ta and titi.
***Third Grade Exploratory: We continue to practice vocal use/care while learning to match pitch and learn new songs. Our first unit is the study of rhythm (writing, reading, naming, counting the symbols). The study of Melody is "hidden" within our warmup as we sing by site to solfege hand patterns. During the course of our nine weeks, we will learn about the other four elements of music indirectly (form, expression, harmony and tone color). These are a fabulous group of kids - and gifted vocally. I would like all third grade parents to consider their child for the wonderful world of Vocal Music!
***Fourth/Fifth Grade students are preparing vocal selections for our musical production "A Charlie Brown Christmas." We will perform this for students during the day on December 18th and for parents in the evening. Students are learning songs in Latin, German and English. We are reading melodic contour, figuring rhythms and learning solfege to discover our songs. All songs are on handouts in your child's Vocal binder.
We finished a lyrics test for the song "Christmas Time Is Here" and held auditions for the solo parts on "Happy Holidays." Fourth grade is strumming chord patterns on the autoharps while Fifth grade is chiming chord groups on handbells to the song "Dona Nobis Pacem."
Let me first say thank you to every vocal parent who has entrusted their child's musical development to me. I find my job to be an incredible honor and responsibility. I can assure you that I do not take the responsibility lightly. I work hard to provide the best musical experience for my students.
Please consult the vocal handbook (for grades 3-5). It is a storehouse of information with most questions and answers you'll need all year. Please keep it handy to refer to all year as well.
JWJ Grade Level Music Objectives, National Music Standards, and State Arts Standards can be provided to you by request.
To keep on top of what we are doing in Vocal Music, open your child's agenda and read his/her daily vocal music entries. Each entry is written by your child and is a short summary of our lesson focus.
