Pre – K through 2nd Creative Dance Explorations:
Every 3 weeks I see a new group of students. We explore the elements of all types of dance: The use of the body as an instrument of expression, moving safely through the dance space while exploring levels, pathways and shapes. We use many different types of music to inspire different qualities of movement and different rhythm patterns. K- 2nd grade students also explore folk dances from around the world.
NOTE TO PARENTS OF 3RD - 5TH GRADE DANCERS:
Many of you have asked about ordering dance wear on line. I have some websites listed below. These are places I trust. I have ordered from them before and they have good products & service.
3rd Grade Dance Explorations:
3rd graders study dance for four days per week for nine weeks. We go more in depth into the elements of dance and learn how and why people of different cultures and times danced. After learning folk dances from several countries, we explored the art of choreography (making up dances.) The 3rd graders created a Water Cycle Dance for our 3rd Grade Arts Showcase.
4th Grade Dance Elective:
The 4th grade dancers begin learning how a dance technique class works and build their dance vocabulary in modern and jazz dance styles. They are performing "Step on the Beat" for Kindergarten and 1st grade this week.
5th Grade Dance Elective:
The 5th grade dancers will add onto the knowledge they have gained and go more in depth in the study of ballet technique and begin studying how choreographers put a dance together. We have begun learning the dances for our Winter Showcase, "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
