ADDITIONAL GRADES: 10 point science lesson assessment sheets will be coming home in test folders. These are open-book assignments (usually four) which are assigned for homework throughout the chapter. The purpose of these assignments is two-fold: an aid for studying for the chapter test and a grade "booster."
In addition, English "Classroom Practice" pages will be completed occasionally in class as a graded assignment. The students should be well prepared for these by means of classroom participation, and the assignment will be planned in advance and written in their assignment pads.
EXTRA CREDIT:
I spoke with my students about extra credit opportunities that will be available to them in Reading and Science. For Reading: they may read one of the "leveled reader" books which have been provided as a supplement to our new reading series; there are 15 or so to choose from per unit. After reading, they are to complete the provided feedback sheet and turn it in. They will receive up to 2 bonus points and may read one book per week. For Science: they may summarize a science-related current event (IN THEIR OWN WORDS!!) together with a graphic (photo, illustration, graph, etc. - computer or hand-generated) of the current event. They need only write one paragraph; the entire submission should only be one page. Events can be found in the newspaper, magazines, or online (see some of the links below). They will receive up to 2 bonus points and may turn in one current event per week.
PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to check Mrs. Bourgoyne's webpage as well for test schedules and other information regarding the subjects she teaches. All scheduled tests listed are subject to change due to time limitations and unforeseen circumstances within the course of the school day. Any changes made in class override the schedule that appears on this page. Assignments are posted in the classroom daily. Tests are posted in the classroom for the week. Students who do not complete written classwork during the school day are expected to include the unfinished work as a part of the homework assignment for that evening.
