You have all started your first day of summer and I hope it is off to a great start. I just wanted to tell you all that I had a wonderful year because of your kids! They are the reason I teach and the reason I love coming to work. It is hard for me to see them go but I’m so excited to send them on their next journey. Please feel free to email or call if there is anything I can do for you in the future. Thank you for all you have done over the last few years and thank you for giving me support and friendships and letting me be apart of your children’s lives. Enjoy your summer!

Our school carnival is fast approaching. Our classroom is going to be doing
“Dance Dance Revolution” in the music room. This is great because we do not have to prepare anything nor do we have a great deal to set up or take down. However, I need people to sign up to work our “booth.” I need 2 people to run the booth: one to keep kids in line and take tickets and the other to run the x-box. Here are the hours of the shifts.
5:25-6:15
6:10-7:00
6:55-7:45
7:40-8:15
I will have everything set up and train the first group. I am signed up to work my teacher shift from 6:15-7:00. The last group will clean everything up and return it to the office to be locked up for the evening. Email me to let me know when you can work. Thanks for your help and support on this.

Also, there is a chior trip on Friday as well. All chior kids can take the vocabulary quiz before they leave.
Remember next week is our first week of CRT tests. We will be taking Reading and Science.

*Last day of school May 22nd
Please send any; camp classes notes, 5th grade t-shirt order forms, picture forms and basket items as soon as you can.
Also, it would be very helpful if you could sit down this weekend and talk with your children about finishing out the school year with success. We had a talk from Mrs. Edwards today about using kind words and respecting our peers. Also today the kids had a rough class with Mrs. Clements. We may have too much of the spring bug and we just need to remember to use self-control. Thank you for your help and please continue to email or call if you have any questions or concerns.
So coming to work in snow does not help me feel like tomorrow should start our spring break, crazy Oklahoma weather. Just a reminder that we do NOT have school tomorrow and because you kids have done a great job you can have next week off too. Over the break I asked the kids to study their math vocabulary. Today we took an assessment and many of them got caught up in the meaning of the words. Other then that all I ask if for you to have a great spring break and I'll see all of your kids on March 23rd.

Enjoy your evening and I’ll see your kids looking cute and adorable in the morning.

We are working on Stem and Leaf graphs this week and this a very different graph for them so if they have questions here is the website I used to help teach the lesson. It does a good job of walking them through it.

Hey parents I just wanted to ask a favor of all of you. We have had a lot of kids sick and lots of colds going through. Would you please remind your students to cover their mouths when they cough and to try and keep pens and pencils out of their mouths. I really do miss your kids when they are gone so if we work together we will all have a healthier season. Thanks for your help.

Parents I wanted to remind you about tomorrow. Here is the plan for tomorrow. We will have short class rotations in the morning and one short rotation after lunch. At 1:30 the kids come back to the room where we will clean up, change into costumes if needed, pass out Thursday folders and any other notes. We then will head to the gym for our school wide parade at 2:00. We will come back to the room at 2:45 for our class party. If you want to join us we would love to have you! Just because they are in 5th grade does not mean they don’t like to party. We will have food, a craft and a game. We will try to wrap up the party about 3:30. I’m very excited for tomorrow and I know that the kids are. I hope to see many of you tomorrow and enjoy your day off on Friday. If you have any questions about the party feel free to call, 834-3649.
*Side Note: When it comes to costumes please nothing scary. This is to be a fun time for the whole school. If the costume might frighten a younger child please don’t send it to school.

Tuesday 21st, 2008
Welcome back to school, I hope you had a fall break. I wanted to let you know of a couple of things.
First next week is Red Ribbon Week here is the plan for dressing up:
Monday – USE YOUR HEAD, DON’T DO DRUGS (wear your favorite hat or style your hair crazy)
Tuesday – STAY IN THE GAME (wear your favorite team jersey, t-shirt or your own team uniform)
Wednesday – FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, DON’T DO DRUGS (wear your flannel pajamas)
Thursday – DON’T BE TRICKED, DRUGS ARE NO TREAT (wear your costume to school)
Also, Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week and I am sending a note home today about that.
Remember that picture retakes are TOMORROW!!!
Finally, report cards go home on Monday. Several of you have asked about missing work and I wanted to share with you my procedures. First, remember that every teacher is different so how things look in my room may vary. In my room I have two trays that hold no names and extra copies. I tell kids to check there first. If there are none left then I have them write me a note letting me know what they are missing. Then before report cards not progress cards I run copies of review sheets and have the kids do this as replacement work. The review sheets cover content from the whole 9 weeks. I then give the kids a 70% on the work. This is different then our 5th grade procedures. Having 100 kids I think this is the best way for me to handle missing work. I hope this helps a little and if you have any more questions please email me.

I wanted to pass on that your children were wonderful for the subs last week. It is so nice first to be able to attend a conference and come back excited and to then get a good report from subs.
I also wanted to pass on some info.
First: Our homeroom will be doing a math book report. The book report is due Oct. 15th. They got their books today, we will be making the report in class, they will need to do all the written work at home.
Second: Our homeroom has been reading "City Of Ember". I really like this book and it is coming out on video this Friday.
Third: Pictures are this Wednesday, I sent home info today so be watching for that.
I think that is about it for today. Please continue to email me with questions or concerns. Have a great week.

Hey parents wanted to tell you that your kids were amazing today! Every teacher I talked with praised them! The math test is tomorrow and they have a study guide that they are to study with you tonight. I also wanted to pass a long a note from the office. I will be at a math conference on Thur. and Friday of this week and will be out of the building so if you could send this note early it would really help me and my subs out. Thank you again for your help and I'll keep you posted on any news.
**If you are planning on checking students out to attend the Homecoming parade on Friday, please contact the office by Thursday afternoon to let us know. This will help us to track who is planning on going and will really cut down on the activity in the office at parade time. We will need written documentation with the following information: student/parent name, check out time, the person picking the student up at check out time, along with a written statement giving another person permission to check your son our daughter out of school. We appreciate your cooperation with this process. If you have questions regarding check out information please contact the school office at 359-3188.**

Dear Parents,
Over the last few days I have had to correct much of the behavior within our classroom. However, today I had several other 5th grade teachers approach me about their behavior as well. Here are the problems, there is way too much talking. Students feel as if they can talk whenever they so choose and with little respect for the teachers or peers. We have a lack of self-control. Students have little regard for others or property. I felt as though this problem could be solved within our room however, my asking, telling and pleading is of no good. They have chosen to disrespect any of my efforts. Please sit down with your child this weekend come up with a contract that both of you agree upon. This contract should show what things your child will do as a positive student within the class. This will be due on Monday. I’m thankful to have wonderful parents who are willing to work with me and their students. Thank you for all of your help with this issue.

ONE COME ALL! Friday is our big Jog-a-thon and our class needs you! We will be running from 9:10 - 10:00 and we need all the cheerleaders we can get. PTO has asked for two parents to commit to being there to help during our time slot so if you are free and are coming let me know so I can pass on that we have that covered.
Also, Nissa Richison purchased all the fruit and drinks for that day and if you don’t mind sending a few dollars to help cover that cost it would be highly appreciated. Thank you for all you do and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hey Parents I wanted to say thank you for a wonderful grandparent’s day. For those of you who donated treats and paper goods a big thank you. Also, thank you for sending the word to your family. The kids had a great time and I hope that it was just as nice for the grandparents. I also wanted to send out two requests. First, Mrs. King our health teacher needs magazines to cut up. There are doing a food pyramid and need a wide range of pictures. So if you have a few just sitting around the house could you please send those? Second, if you happen to be in the neighborhood of Staples and feel like picking up some copy paper that would be great. I know that right now there is a rebate for paper. It would be a huge help but I am not in dyer need as of today. Thanks again for everything.
I also gave the kids their spelling words today so they should have those to study.

I am so proud of your kids! They did great on today’s math test. I know that this unit/chapter has been hard for many of them but they seem to know what is going on so if you have been helping at home, thank you.
I wanted to pass along some reminders to all of you. First going home today in their Thursday Folder are a few notes that need to be signed and returned. Fist is one for Ms. Orsack, one is about the upcoming fieldtrip. Also, Grandparents Day is tomorrow at 11:00 am. Book orders are also due on Monday.
Tomorrow I will be sending home an at-home project. We will be having the kids make a portfolio to keep showcase items in. So please be watching for that.

Just a reminder that Back-to-School night is TONIGHT, from 5:30 to 7:30. Mrs. Edwards is going to have a short intro from 5:30-6:00. Then all the 5th grade teachers will be together talking in Mrs. Clement's room. (Mr. Malwick's old room) If you can't make it and you have any questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. Please do not bring your children, this will help us get done faster. Hope to see you tonight.
Also, Grandparent's Day is Sept. 5th at 11:00 am. If your child's grandparents do not live near by and you have a close family member that you would like to bring that is just fine.
We had a wonderful day yesterday! If yesterday is any indication of how the year will go, we are set to have an amazing year! I have signed all of you up for school notes. I will use it as a way to update you on things that are happening within our class. Please let me know if you got this, this way I will know that I have correctly put in your email.
Here are some up and coming events: first, Back To School Night is August 26th, second, Grandparents Day is Sept. 5th. If anyone is willing and able to supply treats and/or drinks that would be wonderful, just let me know.
We do not have a homeroom mom/dad at this point if that is something you would enjoy doing let me know. We have amazing parents that are willing and able to help.
I’m so excited about this year and please feel free to email me or call anytime if you have questions or concerns.
