Dear Parents,

I just added a couple of pictures under the "learning is yummy" and "partner school" tabs on my Teacherweb site.  Hope you get a chance to look at your sweet children.  They love having their picture taken and love getting to look at them even more.

Also, don't forget about the "Principal's Reading Challenge" that ends next Friday.  As of yesterda, the school had only read 3,500 books.  I reminded the students they could fill up their reading logs and turn it over to add more.  I'm actually very proud of our class though.  Combined with the books we've read in class, our class has read over 275 books.  Way to go!!!

Have a wonderful three day weekend.  See you on Tuesday.

-Mrs. Gaston

Dear Parents,

We have not had email access since Thursday due to a problem with the district's server.  I am not receiving or able to send any emails at this time.  If you need to get a message to me, please call the office and have them write a message for me.  You are also welcome to send text messages if there is an urgent matter, 918-406-7879.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

March 5, 2010

Yipee!  Gaston's Hoppers are in the lead.  We're leading the kindergarten classes in the fitness challenge.  Keep sending those totals in each week.  We're doing great!  I reminded the students that any bit of activity counts from gymnastics practice to sweeping the floor.  We had to talk about video games not counting unless they are the Wii kind that have you moving your body and working those muscles.  Feel free to use extra paper if needed.  Totals will be due Wednesday of next week due to the short week.

Thanks, and keep moving!

March 3, 2010

Dear Parents,

Please remember to send your parent/teacher conference request form with your child tomorrow if you have not done so already.  I will send home notes on Friday confirming your conference date and time.

Also, spring pictures are this Friday.  We will have our class picture taken.  If you would like to order a class picture, please be sure to return the order envelope along with a check for $11.00 made payable to Lifetouch.  You do not need to send money for individual portraits at this time.  Spring individual portraits are purchased when they are delivered.

Thank you!
Mrs. Gaston

Thank you!

February 17th, 2010

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to be returning to the classroom on Thursday, February 25th. I have missed the students and have really enjoyed getting to see them several times over the past few weeks.  I've been watching their progress while on leave and am so proud of the students.  They've grown so much already this year.  I look forward to seeing the amazing things they'll accomplish throughout the remainder of the year.

If you have any questions or concerns that I need to be made aware of before our March conferences, please do not hesitate to email or come by to schedule a time to meet.

Thank you!
Mrs. Gaston

Dear Parents,

We had many students out ill today.  I did not send home notes for our field trip chaperones today in case there are changes.  If your child will not be able to attend Wednesday's field trip or if you have signed up to chaperone and are unable to attend due to illness, please email me by 12:00 tomorrow (Tuesday).  I will send home a note to all chaperones tomorrow with a list of students.  Thank you so much for your help with this.  With so many germs going around, I realize there might still be last minute changes, but I wanted to try and get it as accurate as possible.  Thank you.

-Mrs. Gaston

October 8, 2009

Dear Parents,

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a pajama day for any student who brings $1 to donate to the Susan G Koman Foundation.  I'll be in mine!!

Also, a huge thanks for the wonderful birthday gift I received from the class.  I wanted to let everyone know that I used my gift card to purchase a convection oven for our classroom.  Now, the students won't have to wait for specials time for me to bake their creations.  Thanks again!

-Mrs. Gaston

September 26, 2009

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for supporting our school through the walk-a-thon.  It was a great success.  I've added some pictures of our students at the walk-a-thon on my teacherweb.com page.

Also, Prairie Vale will participate in "Pajamas for Pink Day" on Friday, October 9th.  On this day, students are invited to wear pajamas for a $1 donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation.  It sounds like a fun opportunity to support a worthy cause.

August 7,  2009

Dear Parents,

Some of you might already know that I will be teaching kindergarten when school resumes.  I am so excited and am having fun getting everything ready for a redesigned room.  I am looking for a few items for the classroom.  I would like to add a baby doll cradle, highchair, and babydoll.  I would also like to add some cars or other "boy toys" for the children to enjoy during time in our dramatic play center.  Costumes and hats are also needed.  I know many of my students last year have younger siblings, but I thought I would mention this so as you are cleaning out those closets, maybe you could keep our classroom in mind.  Many thanks!

-Mrs. Gaston

We have three students that have been working so hard on the Reading Pals program.  I am so proud of all of you that have logged in and read your letters.  I'm checking progress, so just keep it up!!

If you did not join the Reading Pals program, I hope that you are checking out the amazing books at our local libraries.  Libraries are just like gigantic treasure chests!!  They are wonderful!!

Don't forget to stop by my teacherweb page and add your own comment to the blog.  I can't wait to hear what you all are doing this summer.

Take care and keep cool!

June 21, 2009

Hi, everyone!  I hope you all are enjoying summer break and staying cool.  Whew!  It is hot out there!!  I sure do miss everyone!

I have a couple of things I would like to share.  First, I attended a technology conference last week and learned a few tricks to help update my teacherweb page (yeah!).  One of the things I added was a blog page.  I've started a topic about what everyone is doing this summer. Please add your thoughts on the blog.  Second, Reading Paws starts tomorrow.  We've had many already enroll in the online letter program, but it isn't too late if you haven't.  If your child is participating, I've added a survey page on my teacherweb site, too.  Please share your thoughts on the program.  Thanks so much!

I can't wait to here from everyone on the blog.  Take care, and keep reading : )

Dear Parents,

We're Golden Poets!  I can't believe the class memorized our last poem in record time.  They learned it and recited it perfectly in two days!!!  The students will receive their ribbons at Antler Alert on Friday.  I am so very very proud of them!  To receive the ribbons, they have all memorized 10 poems with a minimum of 50 words each and recited them to Prairie Vale Staff.  Way to go, class!!

Dear Parents,

I just want to thank you for all of your help and ongoing support.  We had so many parents that gave their time to help at our holiday party and others that generously sent items and treats for the party.  Thank you!!!  And I sincerely thank you for the wonderful gifts from the students.  What a treat!! Thank you!!

Your children are so special, and it is such a joy teaching them this year.  I hope that you and your families have a wonderful holiday.  I can't wait to hear all about it in the New Year!

Mrs. Gaston

12/19/08

Dear Parents,

They did it!!!  The students earned that last needed compliment moments ago.  As mentioned in this week's newsletter, to celebrate the kids are invited to wear their snuggliest pajamas and bring their favorite (small) stuffed toy tomorrow (Friday).  I did tell the class that house slippers are fine but need to be tucked away in backpacks until they get into the classroom.

Way to go class!!!!

-Mrs. Gaston

12/19/08

Dear Parents,

I spoke with our adopted staff member, Mrs. Pruitt, and she will be able to attend our holiday party tomorrow afternoon.  If your child would like to bring a gift or card for her, they can give it to her during that time.

-Mrs. Gaston

Dear Parents,

If you did not get a chance to shop at the Book Fair during Open House, our class has been given a time on Friday to make any final purchases.  If your child would like to buy something at the Book Fair, please put his/her money in the WOW folder on Friday.  Please, tell your child that his/her money is in the WOW folder so that we don't overlook anyone when our time arrives.

Thanks!
Mrs. Gaston

12/01/08

Please make plans to attend Open House next Tuesday, December 9th.  Our class will sing with Mrs. Brewer's class at 6:00 in the cafeteria.  Please try to arrive just a couple of minutes before 6:00.  After singing, parents are invited to visit the classrooms and other grade level presentations and shop the book fair.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Dear Parents,

Have a super week!

10/09/08

Dear Parents,

I'm so excited for our field trip tomorrow!  Thank you so much for getting all permission slips back in time, and thank you, parents, for chaperoning.

We're going to leave school as soon as Antler Alert ends. We'll leave closer to 9:30 rather than 9:00. Feel free to follow the buses or we'll just see you there.

Thanks!  I hope everyone has a great time!!!

-Mrs. Gaston

9/19/08

Parents,

The walk-a-thon was so much fun, and the kiddos walked and walked and ran and walked for 45 minutes.  I was so proud of them.  Your children will probably be exhausted tonight.  I tried to take a couple of photos during the event, and I hope to get those posted on my teacher web site this weekend.

Just FYI.  Spirit ribbons will be sold next Wednesday since the game is Thursday night.  If your child would like to purchase a spirit ribbon, send $1 with him/her on Wednesday.  The ribbons will be white the royal blue writing "strip the knights" and will be delivered on Thursday.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Gaston

9/3/08

Parents,

Just a reminder that we need all RSVP slips for Grandparents' Day by this Friday.  If a Grandparent cannot attend, feel free to invite a "special someone" so that all students have a guest.

The RSVP slip was attached to the teapot invitation.

Thanks so much for your help!
Mrs. Gaston
