Parents-
I would like to show the movie Indian in the Cupboard to the students.  We read the novel together earlier in the year.  I would like the students to compare and contrast the novel and the movie.  The movie is rated PG.  If you object to your child viewing the movie, please let me know, and I will provide an alternate assignment.  I plan on showing the movie to the class Wednesday.
Thank you,
Krista Pippin

Parents -
This is a long overdue Thank You for all the help you gave to make the Field Trip, the Land Run, and the Carnival a success.  I appreciate everyone who attended the Field Trip.  I think the children had a great time and hopefully learned something new about Oklahoma.  Thank you for the time you spent with our children.  Thanks also for the help, donations, and time spent at the Land Run.  We had more than enough supplies for the day!  Thank you!  Thanks also for helping to make the Carnival a success.  Shelley Denton organized a great game!  Thanks Shelley! We raised $600 for Rose Union!  Thanks to everyone who stood at the gate and tried to "keep the peace".  I know it was hectic and crazy, but I think the kids had a blast! I appreciate you all so much!
Thanks again,
Krista

Parents -
Please send a water bottle to school with your child.  This will eliminate the need to use the water fountains.
Thanks!

Land Run!
Parents,
I addressed a question earlier today that I imagine many of you might be having!  The fourth grade Land Run is next Friday, May 1.  The students have met with their "families" to determine which items they are in charge of bringing that day.  Following is a list of items each group will need Friday, May 1.
1. 4 stakes(for land claim)
2. rope (for land claim)
3. mode of transportation (stick horse, wagon)
4. land improvement (something to better your land - flowers, garden, mailbox)
5. hammer (for stakes)
6. dress appropiate to the time period
The above list consists of NEEDED items.  Students are encouraged to be creative!  The wagons may be covered to resemble a covered wagon, tents may be used for land improvement, carpet scraps for comfort - really anything goes!  This is as simple or as creative as the kiddos, and you helpful, wonderful, amazing parents, want it to be! Have fun!  Also, the cafeteria will be serving lunch that day. However, students may bring lunch from home instead.  Several students have offered your helpful services of providing McDonald's or pizza that day.  Please don't feel obligated to provide such a lunch.  It is a fun day and eating something special is fun, but not necessary.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Krista

Parents,
The fourth grade team is in the process of preparing for our Oklahoma unit.  Mrs. Edwards has graciously granted our request to meet as a team during the school day to help prepare for our unit, as well as for the remainder of the school year.  We are meeting on Friday, February 27.  Each fourth grade teacher needs a volunteer to substitute for our class from 10:45 - 12:30.  Please consider helping us.  The students will be studying Science during this time.
I really appreciate your help!

Hopefully you enjoyed the ice break - fun to be at home, but now we will have some make-up days.  I have copied the email we received from Mrs. Wilkinson regarding the make-up days.  Please make changes to your calendars.
Thank you,
Krista Pippin
School will be in session on the following dates:

Monday, February 16 (Make Up Day for 1/27/09)

Friday, April 10 (Make Up Day for 1/28/09)

Friday, May 22 (Make Up Day for 1/29/09)

Any additional Inclement Weather Days will be added to the end of the school year and will have to be made up with school in session after Memorial Day.  I know we are all hoping that we do not have any additional bad weather causing roads to be too hazardous for our bus routes. We also hope that school remains in session because we all know that right now is important instructional time for our children.

I wanted to thank all of our wonderful parents for planning our Christmas party.  I appreciate you so much!  It is always exciting to watch the emails circulate regarding our class.  Thank you also for donating items for the rotations we participted in yesterday.  The reindeer the kids made were darling!  I hope everyone had a fun time.
The spelling bee has been postponed until January 16.  We have not had our preliminary bee to determine our five contestants.  We will hold our class bee to determine these five students after our Christmas break.  If your child bought a spelling bee book, please have them study hard!  If your child did not purchase a book, they are still encouraged to participate in the preliminary bee.  They may do so by studying previous spelling lists or simply by reading throughout the break.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and I look forward to seeing your children next year!

Parents -
We need your help!  We are having a Thanksgiving/OU/OSU celebration tomorrow.  We are short quite a bit of supplies.  I apologize for the late notice, somehow our note was not handed out Friday.  We are in need of the following items:
Oreos              Red Hots           Icing
Water Bottles      Chips/Dip
Candy Corn         Cookies
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The items are needed tomorrow!
Thank you,
Krista Pippin

Parents -
I need your help!  As many of you know, the fourth grade team has changed a bit.  We were very fortunate to have Elizabeth Luecke join us on our team.  But, since we have been preparing for the Informance, we have not been able to meet as a team since she arrived.  Mrs. Edwards is allowing us to meet as a team tomorrow, Friday, from 1:30 - 3:30.  However, she is not getting substitutes for us.  She is asking for parent volunteers to substitute for us.  If you are willing to help, I would really appreciate it!
Please email me and let me know as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Krista

**********Informance Reminder**********
Fourth Grade Informance
Thursday, November 13, 2008
6:30 - Open House in our classroom
7:00 - Informance in the gym
If you would like to attend the Informance during the school day as well as the evening, our school perfomance will begin at 10:15.  It would be beneficial to arrive early, 10:00, since it will be very crowded.
Please remember to dress your student in either a red, white, or blue shirt with a pair of jeans.
Thank you,
Krista Pippin

Parents -
Thanks to everyone who has returned the conference request form I sent home with the students.  While I have received several requests for conferences, I have not received a request from everyone.  If you have returned the form, I have sent home a reminder of the time you were assigned.  If you have not requested a conference time, please do so as soon as possible.  If you don't feel a conference is necessary at this time, please return the form with such choice marked.
Thank you!
Krista Pippin

Parents -
Thank you to all who attended the last PTO meeting.  Because we had so many representatives from our class, I won the Coins for Classrooms, again!  It was such a surprise to win the first time, and to win again was a shock! I used the money from the first win to purchase supplementary math materials and some cute stickers for the kids' papers.  This month I plan to buy some materials for a bulletin board we will create to celebrate the upcoming election.  Thank you!
The fourth grade teachers sent home a note yesterday, Wednesday, to request a large white poster board and two brown paper bags from each student.  Please send these items with your child to school tomorrow, Friday.  We will be using these materials to prepare for our Informance.
If you have not already requested a time for conferences, please do so.  I am assigning times on a "first to turn in their form" basis.
Mrs. Thomas, the music teacher, has asked us to inform her of any students who are not going to participate in singing holiday songs. She would like to start singing holiday songs soon, but needs to know who will not participate.  If you would like your child to refrain from singing such songs, please let me know.
Thank you!
Krista Pippin

Parents -
Our school fundraiser is approaching quickly!  The students have brought home information regarding the fundraiser, as well as collection envelopes for donations.  In addition to donations, each grade level is collecting items for theme boxes that will be sold to the highest bidder on Family Fun Night.  Our two themes are GOLF and FESTIVE FALL.  Boxes have been placed at the end of the fourth grade hall to collect donations.  If you would rather  bring your donations to our classroom, please feel free!
Thank you,
Krista Pippin

Friday, September 5
Thank you to all parents who helped with Grandparent's Day today.  It was a huge success!  I really appreciate all of the help.  The snacks were terrific!  Having the digital camera to take pictures of the kiddos with their special family member was a great idea!  Thank you, thank you thank you!
Krista Pippin

Parents,
On Family Fun Night each grade will be selling 2 theme baskets that evening.
The five 4th grade classrooms will be responsible for (1) GOLF basket and
(1) FESTIVE FALL basket, (two baskets total for the 4th grade).
The Fun Night committee will be placing 2 boxes in the 4th grade hall next week labeled with our grade and theme and are asking 4th grade parents to donate items for these boxes.  You can also donate gift cards if you choose.  Please have your donations in the boxes by September 19. Anything to do with GOLF or FALL can be donated to the box.

Thanks for your help!
4th grade homeroom moms

Thank you to all who had an opportunity to respond to the last School Notes message.  I received several questions regarding differences in fourth and third grades.  In fourth grade, we provide the children with one recess, before lunch.  We know this is a difference that is difficult and disappointing to the students.  We are assigned an extra recess time in the afternoon.  We will definately keep this in mind and use it if we feel the children need a break.  So far, we have used it twice - once on the first day of school and once on Friday!  The second question I received was regarding our late lunch.  The fourth graders eat lunch at 12:50.  Because lunch is late compared to what the children ate last year, and probably throughout the summer, please consider packing a snack for your child.  We will allow the children time to eat their snack between 11:00-11:30.  I do have extra goodies in my room if needed.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

We had a terrific first day of school yesterday!  I am very excited to be back to school with such a great group of students.  To make certain I have each email address correct, please respond to this email.  I look forward to hearing from you.
