Parents,
We have a busy week this week. Remember we still have two more days of testing.  We will be testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday is our field trip to the zoo.  I wanted to touch base with everyone reguarding the field trip.  All parents are welcome on the field trip, however, because of the limited number of wristbands parents who are actual group leaders will be admitted free. Those of you who are group leaders have already been contacted and will need to be in the cafeteria on Thursday morning at 8:30. Mrs. Nikkel and Mrs. Rickner will be their to inform you about the day.  We will give you all the information reguarding the field trip at that time.  Also 5th grade is also going on the same field trip so we will need to be ready to leave promptly Thursday morning.  All other parent volunteers will need to meet outside the gym doors by the bus loop.  I will be there to explain everything that you will need to know for the field trip.  Also parent volunteers who are coming to spend a day with your child, but not leading a group, unfortunately will need to plan on paying for admission into the zoo and providing their own lunch.  We hate that everyone cannot get in free and have lunch provided, but the zoo has restricted us in this area.
We will see you all on Thursday.
Thank you
Mrs. Stone

Parents,
I wanted to let everyone know about the test prep folders that are coming home today.  There are two math and two reading assignments in the folder.  They are due on Fridays.  We will be sending a test prep folder home each Monday.  This will give you and your  child an opportunity to review the concepts that have been taught already in preparation for the CRT Test and Iowa test in April.
Thanks,
Michelle Stone

Parents,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.  We are off and running into the third nine weeks. I wanted to give you the dates of some test that will be coming up.

Friday - Jan. 11th - West Region States and Capital Test
Friday - Jan. 18th - States and Capital Test for the United States
We will be preparing for both of these test in class, however, it will be helpful to your child to review the U.S. states and capitals for the overall test.
Thank you,

Parents,
We will be making Salt Dough Maps of the state of Oklahoma on Thursday.  We need alittle help from you.  We are sending a note home today with the recipe for the salt dough. Please send the salt dough with your child on Thursday.

Ingredients
4 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 1/2 cups hot water (from tap)
2 teaspoons vegetable oil (optional)

Mix the salt and flour together, then gradually add the water until the dough becomes elastic. (Some recipes call for 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil at this point.)  If your mixture turns out too sticky, simply add more flour.  If it turns out crumbly, simply add more water.  Knead the dough until it's a good consistency.  Store in the refridgerator.

Thanks for all your help,
Michelle Stone

Parents,
Just a few reminders about the week following Thanksgiving.  First of all, we will be having our Live Oklahoma History Museum Wednesday, November 28th at 2:30 in the afternoon.  Please help your child memorize their one minute biographical speech.  I know many of you have already been working really hard on this.  I just thought if any of you were traveling out of town that you might have an opportunity to help you child memorize their speech.  We will be practicing Monday and Tuesday when we get back from Thanksgiving.
Secondly, please remember to be drilling those multiplication facts.  We will really be picking up the pace with multiplication when we return from Thanksgiving.
Finally, I just wanted to let everyone know how truely thankful I am to have such a wonderful class and parents who enjoy being involved in their child's education.  Thank you so much for all you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Parents,
I sent home the invites for "Breakfast with the Teacher" today.  The notes have the incorrect date on them.  It is actually Friday, November 9th.  We will begin breakfast at 8:15 am.  I want to say an early thank you to Brenda Cobb and Christi McConnell for volunteering to provide breakfast on Friday.  Thanks so much for all of your help.
Also, if anyone has any more items to send for the auction please send them now.  We will be having our first auction Friday afternoon.  The kids don't know that we have scheduled it for Friday.  It is going to be a surprise!!!
Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for next week. Please return the note reguarding the times that are most convenient for you.  I will do my best to accommodate everyone.  I will send home time assignments on Thursday, November 8th.  Have a good evening.

Parents,
We are all enjoying being in our new room.  It is wonderful!  We have had alot of excitement.  We went on a great field trip last Tuesday.  All of the kids seemed to really enjoy the Oklahoma History Museum.
I need to remind you all of a few things.  Today we again sent students home with lice.  We have bagged all pillows and sterilized our rooms once again.  Please follow the instructions on the lice information sheet going home again today.  We need to get this problem under control and we need everyones help.

We are also beginning our Oklahoma Unit.  Each fourth grader has been assigned a famous Oklahoman to research.  They have written in their agendas the instructions and the due date for this assignment.  The goal of this assignment is that they will take the information learned about their person and memorize a one minute script to be relayed during a Live Oklahoma History Museum of Famous People on November 13th.  So put this date on your calender.  It will be during the school day.  Here is the actual instructions that should be in your childs agenda:

*Research papers completed and due on November 2nd
*November 13th is the wax museum.  Each student will need to have basic information about their person memorized for a 1 minute speech.
Actual assignment:
1.Read through articles from internet - at least 2
2.Read research questions
3.Highlight answers in article
4.Write answers in one word or phrase on scrap paper
5.Final copy needs to be full sentence and complete on Famous Oklahoman Research paper

The final thing I need to let everyone know is that it is time to do our behavior auction.  As soon as everyone brings items for the auction we will be ready to have our first one.  We are asking that everyone bring at least one inexpensive but new item to be auctioned.  Please send your childs contribution to the auction by Friday, October 26th.

Sorry this is so long, however, there was alot of information that need to be shared with everyone.  Thanks for being such awesome parents and thanks for everything you do.

Thank you,
Mrs. Stone

Parents,
We have some exciting news!!!!  It looks like we will be able to move to our new room Monday, September 24th.  We are all really excited.  We would like to make the move as smooth as possible.  We are planning on actually moving everything Monday morning.  If anyone is available to help move it would be greatly appreciated.  Hopefully, we will have everything moved by 11:00am.  If you would please send a large brown grocery sack with your child by Friday.  We are going to go ahead and pack up at the end of the day on Friday. Also, on Monday please send a snack and drink with your child.  Thanks for all of your patience with this transition. We will make it as fun as possible.
Thank you,
Michelle Stone

Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I wanted to send a few reminders for the week.  First, the states and capitals test will be tomorrow.  It will be all matching, however, we will continue to work on recognizing each state by its shape. Please remember it is over the northeast and southeast states.  Secondly, please remember to send in your scholastic book orders Wednesday.  We will be placing the order on Thursday. Also, Mrs. Thomas is also requesting for everyone to have their recorder money turned in by Wednesday.  Thirdly, individual pictures are Friday.  We will be sending another reminder home this week.
Finally, we have assigned a mystery book report due September 28th.  We will be going over how to do this first book report and what we expect tomorrow during class.  There will be a note coming home with what the expectations are for their first book report. Have a great week. If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to email me.
Thank you,
Michelle Stone

Parents,

We are off to a great start this year!  I am really excited.  I wanted to let you all know about the changes in Social Studies reguarding the states and capitals test.  I am moving them to a Tuesday so that the students won't have more than one test on a single day.  I am moving the next States and Capitals test to Tuesday, September 12th.  I sent the states and capital review study sheet home today.  Please remember it is going to be over both the Northeast and Southeast Region.  We will also be doing a small project over the states in the Southeast.  I am going to assign your child a state.  Then, I will need you to please help your child research their state on the internet and bring the printed pages on Tuesday of next week.  We will be using the information throughout the week while completing their inclass project.  Please remember to check your child's agenda's daily.  Graded papers should be in BEAR binders today with the monthly RU newsletter.  We will be sending our 4th grade weekly newsletter home tomorrow due to technical difficulties.
Thanks for everything you do.
Michelle Stone
