MONDAY AND TUESDAY--ALL CHOIRS REHEARSE GRADUATION MUSIC, CLEAN OUT FOLDERS AND STRAIGHTEN THE CHOIR ROOM.  REMOVE PLAQUES FROM THE WALLS SO THE ROOM CAN BE PAINTED.

DISTRICT CHOIR CONTEST IS TOMORROW, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26.
PARENTS AND FRIENDS ARE WELCOME TO HEAR THE CHOIR SING IN MUSIC BLDG. 101.  SHOW CHOIR SINGS BETWEEN 10 AND NOON.  SECOND AND FOURTH HOURS SING BETWEEN 2 AND 4.
ASK YOUR STUDENT FOR SPECIFIC TIMES.

MONDAY--Work on contest music.

TUESDAY--2nd hour works on contest music.  All other choirs will be at SWOSU during choir time.

WEDNESDAY--2nd hour work on choreography for "My Favorite Things" medley
                          3rd hour go to WMS to perform for 8th grade choir

                          4th hour work on "Waitin' for the Light to Shine," and
                           begin basic square dance moves.

THURSDAY--2ND AND 4TH HOURS--Begin watching the movie, "Oklahoma."

                        SHOW CHOIR--work with choreographer on contest show

BURCHAM ELEMENTARY MUSIC

MONDAY--Keep the beat with unpitched rhythm instruments.  Place 20 unpitched rhythm instruments around the tape circle.  Students enter the room 3 at a time with the teacher directing them to specific instruments.  Teacher plays a CD and students first keep the beat with a soft clap.  After all are keeping the beat, teacher directs the students to pick up the instrument.  When the music stops students put the instrument down carefully and the leader scoots over to the next instrument on the right.  Continue through the class time.

TUESDAY--Watch the movie "Oklahoma" with the substitute teacher

WEDNESDAY--Call roll/sing in tune/match pitch

              Show the transparency of SOL AND MI pitches with ta and ti-ti.
              Read and sing from the book, Go Tell Aunt Rhody.

THURSDAY--Continue watching "Oklahoma" with the substitute.

FRIDAY--Call roll/sing in tune/match pitch
                  Listen to the tape,"Balloons"  Lie on the floor still and quietly.
                  Rewind the tape.  Students pantomime the story.  No sound          
                  and no touching of others.

District choir contest is Feb. 26 at SWOSU.  All high school choir members will participate as a required event on that day.  Students will wear their concert uniforms.

Call roll/sing in tune/match pitch

Show the transparency of "This Old Man."  Clap and say the rhythm.  Have students try to guess the song from the rhythm and picture clues.  Name the song.  Sing the song.

Play "In and Out" beat keeping game.


Wednesday & Thursday

Call roll/sing in tune/match pitch—student answers with “sol – mi – sol” using Curwen Hand Signs

Sing and play the choosing game “The Farmer in the Dell.”

Teach the song Willoughby.  Talk about the 2 sections (form) of the song.  One section slow and one fast.  When students are familiar with the song, teach the dance.  Repeat as time allows.

Friday and Monday

Tuesday and Wednesday—Call roll/sing in tune/match pitch
A quick review of quarter note (ta) and quarter rest (ta rest)
Tell a story about how children have to take more and quicker steps to keep up    with a parent who is taller.  Talk about how a candy bar broken in half is still one candy bar even though broken into 2 pieces.   Begin to show how a “ta”  (quarter note) can be be broken into 2 pieces and still be only one beat.  Call the 2 pieces “ti-ti.”  Shoe with cutouts of shoes large and small how ti-ti fits into a ta.  Use the shoes to make several rhythms using ta and ti-ti for the students to clap or speak.

Thursday and Friday—-Practice using rhythms with ta and ti-ti.  Play a game of rhythm baseball using rhythm flash cards.

Teach "Charlie Over the Ocean."  Play the call and response game.

Thursday and Friday(with substitute.)  Listen to the tape "At the Beach."  After listening once, rewind and allow the students to act out the story in pantomine.  Remind that pantomime is without sound.
