One goal in the reading program is to ensure that students read regularly and consistently. The reading log is use to keep track of what, how often, and how long a student reads at home. Students are encouraged to select reading material from the genre of their choice.
Read 20 minutes per day minimum
A Reading Log is given to students on each Monday and is due on Friday.
Absences-
Students are responsible for making up missed assignments due to absences. They can see Ms. Parks before school or after school to get assignments.
Time limit for missed assignments is one day + one.
Syllabus for Ms. Parks 7th Grade Language Arts Classroom
Teacher: Ms. Shawn Parks Degree: Masters +30 Years Teaching: 7
Specific Requirements: Students are required to keep a spiral notebook in the classroom and a 3 prong folder for notes, vocabulary, reading logs, etc.
Grade Policy: Grades will be assessed on total points. Points can come from note taking, vocabulary, reading, worksheets, homework, projects and test.
Homework: 20 minutes independent reading. Students will complete a “Homework Reading Log” and turn in each Friday. No late logs will be accepted. Other homework to be assigned as needed.
Absences: It is the student’s responsibility to make up missed work. Students are expected to obtain make-up assignments the day they return from an absence.
Classroom Procedures
Follow the Tulsa Public Schools Code of Student Conduct (each student received a copy)
Follow the 7 Learning Community Guidelines and LIFESKILLS.
No talking during instruction. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
No leaving the classroom without permission.
Do not open the classroom door without the teacher’s permission.
No throwing projectiles (paper wads, pencils, pens, spit wads or any other items)
Stay seated in your seat.
Bring all supplies needed for class including a mechanical pencil or blue or black ink pen. No color pens.
No food, drinks, or gum in the classroom.
Assignments are due on the due date. No late work will be accepted.
Use inside voice level. No talking will the teacher is talking. Back talk is unacceptable.
Respect yourself, respect others and respect the teacher.
Defiance is not accepted.
