This year I am in charge of Skelly's new computer lab. We are working mainly with the program called Compass Learning. Your child comes to computer as part of his special subjects rotation which includes gym, music, art, and now, computers. This means he/she comes to the computer lab about once a month for a week at a time.
In the lab, our primary focus at this time is reading. I work with your child's homeroom teacher to try to find assignments that are appropriate for your child's reading level. Children can earn coupons for treats at local food chains by successfully completing 10 assignments.
I would like to join with all the teachers at
Skelly in encouraging you to read with your children
every night. Reading is a learned skill and improves
with practice, just like playing the piano or soccer.
Make it a positive experience for your child.
In selecting books, encourage your child to use
the 5 finger rule: Turn to a page near the middle of
the book and start to read. Put up a finger each
time you come to a work you don't know. If you have
all five fingers up by the end of the page, the book
is probably too difficult for you to read with out
help.
HAPPY READING!!!!!
