Section VI – LEADERSHIP CORPS PHYSICAL CHALLENGE

CONCEPT:

•    Physical Challenge provides competition between schools.  It also produces team cohesion, spirit, and a will to win.
•    Each team will consist of as many as five male and five female cadets.  The coach may substitute (task organize) for each event using these ten cadets.  Each event will be completed using four male and four females.

SCORING:

•    Shuttle/Relay events range from 15 points for the 1st place team to 3 points for the 13th place team.
•    Tug-O-War points will only be awarded for the top four teams, with the winner receiving 7 points through 4 points for the 4th place team.
•    Awards will be presented to the top teams in each event and to the overall top teams (based on total points) for the challenge competition.

EVENTS:

Event 1:    Sack Race

•    Each school will have four two-person teams.  Two teams will be at the start line and two teams will be at the far line.  At the signal, the first two-person team will use the sack in a three-legged manner and run to the far line.  The team will cross the far side line and tag the next team which will race back to the start line.  This will continue until all four teams have completed the course.

Event 2:    Bucket Race

•    The teams form a file on the near base line.  Three plastic buckets are placed on the court for each team—near base line, half court, and far base line.  The bucket on the near base line (starting line) has two red/black blocks.  At the starting signal, the first runner turns around, picks one block out of his/her bucket and runs to deposit it in the mid court bucket—then runs back and gets the second block.  After both blocks are in the mid court bucket, the first runner tags the second who then advances the blocks in the same manner from the mid court bucket to the far bucket.  The third runner retrieves the blocks from the far bucket back to mid court and the fourth runner retrieves back to the start point.  Runners five through eight repeat the sequence.

10

Event 3:    Dual Relay

•    Each team will form into four two-person teams along the start point with their backs toward the competition area.  At the signal, the first two runners turn around, link arms, and run to the far side. At the far side both runners will cross the base line (Keeping their arms linked) and return to the start point.  Upon reaching the start point, they will tag the next two competitors and they in turn will execute the same procedures as the first two.  This will continue until all 8 competitors have completed the race.  The first team to have all eight competitors complete the relay wins.

Event 4:  Speed Relay

•    The teams form a line along the start line with their backs towards the competition area.  At the signal, the first team member will turn around and run towards the far end line.  The runner will cross the far end line and turn around to return to the start point.  As he/she crosses the start line they will tag the next person in line who will then execute the same procedures.  This will continue until all 8 competitors have completed the course.  The team to have all eight competitors complete the relay wins.

Event 5:    Fetch Relay

•    Teams line up at the starting line (baseline) and place one member from   each team at the far baseline. At the signal, the lone team member at the    far baseline races to the starting line and fetches the second team       member. The two, holding hands, race to the far baseline. After they both cross the line, the person who has just been fetched, races back to fetch the third person. The pattern continues until all members have been fetched to the far baseline. After the last person has been fetched, the eight member team (holding hands) races back to the starting point. The first team that crosses the finish (starting line/near baseline) line wins.

Event 6:    Kitchen Sink Relay

•    8 cadets from each school.  Teams line up at the starting line (near baseline) At the starting line are four groups of items that must be carried to the far baseline then retrieved and brought back across the start line.  At the signal, the first person will pick up one group of items and race to the far baseline, put down the item(s) and race back to the starting line and tag the next cadet.  The same pattern continues through the fourth cadet.  The fourth cadet tags the fifth cadet that will race to the far baseline and retrieve a group of items then return them to the starting line (near baseline).  The same pattern continues through the eighth cadet.

Event 7:    Tug-O-War

•    A 60 feet long rope, with a scarf tied in the middle will be used. Two lines will be identified on either side of center court. The rope will not be   wrapped around the wrist or around the waist. Competitors should be     lined up so that cadets alternate on either side of the rope. At the signal,    the teams will begin pulling. The team that pulls the rope so that the scarf passes over their line wins.  The competition will be double elimination.
