Reading:
This week is, Centerfield Ballhawk. This is the last comprehension quiz of the year!!
Spelling: Unit 34 (see "Flashcard") mini-lesson be-, a-.
Note: All comprehension tests are open notes/book. Expectations are to look up answers and write the page numbers in the blanks or to the right of the bubble answers. I will remind them many times to support their answers with evidence from the story.
Writing/Language
Students are learning how to narrow the focus of their stories. Many times students will choose to write about very broad topics which makes their writing vague. To prepare for 4th grade writing goals, students are learning to narrow their view through careful planning. For example, write about your favorite place to go. The students web all their favorite places to go and choose one. Let's say Disney. At this point many begin writing about when the got up until they go to bed there. This new strategy teaches them to plan a second time choosing a specific place at that location, maybe ...Magic Kingdom. The 3rd planning session chooses a specific place at Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain. THEN the students web space mountain in their last planning session and write about all the sensations and experiences at that ride. This narrows the focus and helps students to use strong verbs and adjectives in their writing.
Math Math: Money review: saving, spending, AND making change too! REVIEW double digit addition/subtraction with regrouping across zero's AND dbl digit multiplication AND dbl digit division until the end of the year!!

What is an economy?
This week the students will be talking about why stores make up certain names for themselves. Product pricing and creating advertisements for a company are also objectives for the week. FUN!! They will be learning this by creating these things for their very own stores in third grade. Everyone's an employee for 1/2 the time and a shopper for the other 1/2!
