"Marv the Monkey" has one more stop to make this year. he will be visiting Abdiel's house this weekend. Abdiel will be our "Wildcat of the Week" for next week. We look forward to seeing what plans Abdiel and Marv have for the weekend and learning more about Abdiel next week.
WOW! I hope you all had a WONDERFUL Spring Break! Wasn't the weather just beautiful!! I think we all had a hard time getting back in the swing of things early this morning. I know I did. :) I can't believe we are getting so close to the end of the year. After Spring Break, the time seems to really fly. I am excited to see the progress that each of your kiddos makes before the end of the year. They are all doing so GREAT! I am so excited to see their progress each day.
This week, we will be doing several activities focusing on "Spring." We will start the week by discussing the phrase "In Like a Lion, Out Like A Lamb." What a perfect day to bring that phrase up with the wind we have experienced. This is a fun unit because the kids really get to talk about the weather and the differences in the weather for each season. We also do some fun activities to help us learn about Spring. Be sure to ask them about the activities we are learning about each day.
Don't forget to ask your child about their day when you pick them up in the afternoons. Somedays they may say a lot, and other days they may not have anything to say. Hopefully, this newsletter will help you guide this discussion with your child. :)
Please be sure to check SchoolNotes each week for important reminders! Read on for this week's announcements and reminders!
Have a great week!

Tiny Tidbits...
Culver's Night: Culver's Night this week!! If you are looking for easy out for dinner, enjoy some Culver's and help support our school at the same time!!
Tuesday T-shirt Day: We will wear our class t-shirts on Tuesdays from now on. This way the kids can still wear their "Wildcat Wear" on Fridays. I have officially reached the "snug" stage of the class t-shirt. I am going to try to find another blue shirt (similiar) to wear in its place. :(
Homework: The yellow homework folder will be coming home on Monday. The kids are doing great on these! Thanks for taking the time to work with them on this. Be sure to remember to only do one assignment each night. Please help your child remember to bring their folder back to school on Friday for me to check. I will then send it home again on the following Monday. This is Week 4 in the Homework Folder. :)
Homework: Your child will be bringing home their "Shopping Bag" on Tuesday this week. This is a short reading assignment. There are directions in the bag. The books start out as picture books only. Have your child use their imagination and make up a story to go along with the pictures. The books will gradually get harder each week. Many of your kiddos are probably well beyond these books, but there are still MANY skills that can be focused on using these books. You can also practice the same skills with books you may have at home that may be closer to their level. Please feel free to do this with your child if it is more appropriate for them. Please remember to return the "Shopping Bags" on Thursday.
Scholastic Book Order: The March book order was in your child's folder today. There are several good selections in there. Be sure to look through this with your child and possibly pick out a book or two to add to your collection. As always, we appreciate you ordering books to read with your child at home as well as helping us build points to help build our classroom library. Thanks again for making reading a priority in your child's life as well as helping to build our classroom library!
Request from Art: Art room needs any miscellaneous yarn, ribbon, twine, embroidery thread, etc...AND Old, broken crayons Collection boxes are outside the office. Thank-you so much! Mrs. Johnson & students
Snack: Please remember to send a SMALL snack each day. We eat lunch so early that the kiddos are hungry in the afternoons. However, please remember that it is only a snack, no drinks. We get drinks from the water fountain right after snack time, but keeping the drinks out of the classroom helps to keep our room clean. Thanks for your help with this!
BoxTops: Don't forget to clip the "boxtops" from the various products you buy. By doing so, you are helping to raise money for our school :-)
Shoe Expert Award :When your child learns to tie their shoelaces all by themselves, they become a "Shoe Expert" in our classroom. Please practice and encourage your child to keep practicing learning to tie their shoes.

Shhhhhhh!!!
NOTE: Please allow us to introduce this information to your children. We want to share the information with you so you will know what we are doing in our classroom each week. This also helps you when asking your child about their day at school. But we would prefer to introduce this information each day in class. Please use this information as a guide for you! Thanks so much for your cooperation!
Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
Please have your child practice on the following skills:
Writing his/her first name the "Kindergarten" way. The "Kindergarten" way is writing their name with the first letter capital and the rest of the letters are lowercase.
Using the correct pencil grip.
Practice producing the letter sounds.
Practice souding out words.
Practice recognizing the color words.
Practice rhyming words.
Producing neat work.
Our Popcorn Words
We will begin introducing our "Popcorn Words" shortly. This is what we call our sight words because they "pop" up everywhere. Please check back often for a list of the words we have discussed in class.
