PLEASE have your child bring a coat or jacket to school each day! We go out for "fitness break" at 9:10, and it is cold. Our recess is at 11:00. Both of these times are early enough for it to still be very cold. Please send your child to school prepared for the weather. THANKS!!
DON'T FORGET TO LABEL IT!!!
Wildcat of the Week:
"Marv the Monkey" stayed with Mrs. Turman over the Thanksgiving break. He will be getting ready to visit someone else's home this coming Friday. Be looking for him and his black weekend bag to come home with your child!!
Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break. I can't believe we are already into the 3rd six weeks of school. It seems like the time is really flying by!
A BIG "Thank You" to all of the wonderful birthday gifts that I received. You guys are the best! I have already used many of the gift cards over the break!! :) I couldn't ask for better class of kids and parents than I have this year. Thanks for making this year so great!!
This week, we will begin our "Holidays Around the World" unit. The kids doing activities from different holiday traditions around the world for the next seven days. We rotate and each Kindergarten teacher teaches a different country. This is always a lot of fun for the kids. Be sure to ask them which country they "visited" each afternoon after school. :)
Don't forget to ask your child about their day when you pick them up in the afternoons. Somedays they may say a lot, and other days they may not have anything to say. Hopefully, this newsletter will help you guide this discussion with your child. :)
Please be sure to check SchoolNotes each week for important reminders! Read on for this week's announcements and reminders!
Have a great week!
Lindsay Turman
Tiny Tidbits...
Homework: The yellow homework folder will be coming home on Monday. The kids are doing great on these! Thanks for taking the time to work with them on this. Be sure to remember to only do one assignment each night. Please help your child remember to bring their folder back to school on Friday for me to check. I will then send it home again on the following Monday.
Homework: Your child will be bringing home their "Shopping Bag" on Monday. This is a short reading assignment. There are directions in the bag. The books start out as picture books only. Have your child use their imagination and make up a story to go along with the pictures. The books will gradually get harder each week. Many of your kiddos are probably well beyond these books, but there are still MANY skills that can be focused on using these books. Please remember to return the "Shopping Bags" on Thursday.
Scholastic Book Order: There is a Book Order in your child's folder today! It is also available online as usual. Please return these orders (to school or online) by this Friday, Dec. 5. Remember that these books make great gifts as well if you are still needing ideas. :) Thanks again for making reading a priority in your child's life as well as helping to build our classroom library!
LISD Angel Tree: The Angel Tree is now up in the school office. The angels on the tree benefit children in LISD. If you would like to adopt an angel, parents may sign for them on the clipboard in the office. Presents need to be wrapped and returned by December 16th with the angel attached.
Snack: Please remember to send a SMALL snack each day. We eat lunch so early that the kiddos are hungry in the afternoons. However, please remember that it is only a snack, no drinks. We get drinks from the water fountain right after snack time, but keeping the drinks out of the classroom helps to keep our room clean. Thanks for your help with this!
BoxTops: Don't forget to clip the "boxtops" from the various products you buy. By doing so, you are helping to raise money for our school :-)
Shoe Expert Award :When your child learns to tie their shoelaces all by themselves, they become a "Shoe Expert" in our classroom. Please practice and encourage your child to keep practicing learning to tie their shoes.
What's Going On In Kinder???
Week of December 1-5
Unit (Social Studies): This week will begin our "Holidays Around the World" unit. Each Kindergarten teacher will be teaching about holiday traditions in different countries. The kids will "visit" one country each day until they have visited all seven countries (seven classes). The kids LOVE this unit so be sure to ask them about their "visit" each afternoon.
Language Arts: This week in Language Arts, we will be looking at several objectives:
* End Punctuation
* Words in a Sentence
* Oral Traditions
* High Frequency Words
* First, Next, Last
We will explore these objectives through books, games, and other activities. We will also introduce our new "Popcorn Word" this week: "I". Help your child spell this word, read this word, use it in a sentence, etc.
Shhhhhhh!!!
NOTE: Please allow us to introduce this information to your children. We want to share the information with you so you will know what we are doing in our classroom each week. This also helps you when asking your child about their day at school. But we would prefer to introduce this information each day in class. Please use this information as a guide for you! Thanks so much for your cooperation!
Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
Please have your child practice on the following skills:
Writing his/her first name the "Kindergarten" way. The "Kindergarten" way is writing their name with the first letter capital and the rest of the letters are lowercase.
Using the correct pencil grip.
Practice producing the letter sounds.
Practice souding out words.
Practice recognizing the color words.
Practice rhyming words.
Producing neat work.
Our Popcorn Words
We will begin introducing our "Popcorn Words" shortly. This is what we call our sight words because they "pop" up everywhere. Please check back often for a list of the words we have discussed in class.
me, my, we, is, you, can, a, the, I, like, go, look, do
Important Reminders:
Please remember to dress your child in the appropriate clothing for both recess and P.E.
