Now that we have completed six weeks of school (has it really been six weeks?), I have finally had the chance to register on SchoolNotes.
Our class has talked several times about the fact that we are like a "family". At times we have missed some of our family, but have actually had very few absences thus far.
We have now added Work Stations to our daily routine and the kids seem to enjoy the independent work. Included in the Work Stations are:
1. Listening
2. Poetry
3. Computer
4. Spelling/Word Work
5. Writing
6. Big Books
Other Work Stations will be added and/or changed throughout the year.
While the students are at the Work Stations, I am working with small groups doing Guided Reading. By guided, I mean that I group and guide students with similar needs. This allows me to help students improve according to their individuual needs because I can hear them read text on a level that offers some challenge but still a level at which they are able to comprehend.
As you can imagine, small independent groups working while the teacher is focused on a few students is quite a challenge. Just keeping the small groups on tasks without interrupting the Guided Reading lesson is like a juggling act at times!
I truly believe this is the best way to meet the needs of all students. This said, if anyone is available between 8:30 and 10:30 to be an extra set of eyes and ears, I could use the extra help if anyone is willing to volunteer even one day a week during that time!
I am looking forward to meeting with parents at our parent conferences. Information will be sent to you soon to set up a time for a conference.
We continue to work together as our "school family" learns to get along, share, and care.
LIVE WELL...LAUGH OFTEN...LOVE MUCH
