The month of September went by very quickly. It’s hard to believe that we are ready to print off and send home the first grading period report cards this Friday, October 10.
If you have any concerns about your son/daughter’s report card please feel free to contact me. I’ll be glad to visit with you and/or your child. I can also help set up a parent/team conference so that you can talk with the teacher’s about your student’s progress.
The counselors visited the social studies classrooms the week of September 29-October 3 to review Downing’s “Bully and Harassment” Policy. Students and parents were asked to read over and sign agreement to this policy one of the first days of school. It is also contained in each student’s planner. We tried to stress with the students when we visited with them the important role of the bystanders in a bully/harassment situation in that they can help stand up to the bully/harasser and help the person being bullied/harassed. Please remember that Downing has a tipline where situations like this can be reported to us so that we can investigate them. The Downing tipline is 972-350-1416. We want Downing to be a bully free school.
The week of October 27th-31st is Red Ribbon Week. All of the schools in the country will be observing this week. The Downing PTA with the help of Sharon Cornwall and Julie Klipstein will be organizing many activities for the week. The counselors will be visiting classrooms and talking with students about living a drug free life and the choices they can make.
Groups are starting this week. I will be leading the Study Buddies group which will meet on Monday mornings from 8:10-8:35 and the Guy Talk group which will meet on Tuesdays from 8:10-8:35. If your son/daughter is interested in one of the groups please let me know.
