We are in the last 6 weeks of the school year. The time will go very quickly between now and the last day of school in June. Report cards for the 5th six weeks will be coming home with students on Friday, April 24th. Letters will also be mailed home to parents/guardians of students who are at risk of failing a core subject for the academic year. Summer school information will also accompany those letters.

• There will be no before or after school activities or Thursday Night School on TAKS testing days.
• Bring number 2 pencils (no mechanical) and highlighters.
• Eat a good breakfast and get a good night’s sleep.
• 8th graders will keep their backpacks with them during the day on Tuesday, April 28th and Wednesday, April 29th.
• The official testing day will end at 6:00 p.m.
Thanks to all the students, parents, tutors, and teachers who have worked very hard in preparing for these tests.
Small groups will be ending as the school year draws to a close. It was great meeting with the students in the “Study Buddy” and “Guy Talk “ groups. New groups will start in the 2009-2010 school year.
Have a great month!
Our campus Safe and Civil Schools Committee has asked that parents and students be aware of the following information about student nametags.
The following policies are in place that have to do with Downing students wearing name tags.
• ID’s must be worn on shirt collar or around the neck.
• They can be purchased for $3.00 and lanyards for $2.00.
• Once a student has to wear a temporary badge 3 times, they will be assigned a detention by an assistant principal. This will start every six weeks.
• After 4 detentions, it is now considered failure to comply with school personnel directives and will result in a PAS placement.
• This policy has been implemented to help build a more positive rapport between the staff and the students. The staff’s goal is to know each student’s name.
