Study Hall

Student/Parent Contract

This course elective is designed to enable a block of time in a students’ day to work on class assignments.  They may do homework, study for tests, work on projects, or read.

The following rules will be expected and enforced:
•    Student must bring all study materials to class including assignments, binders, pens, pencils, paper, etc….
•    Student must bring the Downing Student Planner with each subject’s assignments filled in.
•    Student must bring an extra book to read if there is no homework to do.
•    Student will work independently.

In order for the classroom to be effective for those who are studying, students MUST remain quiet and stay in their assigned seats and have all of their materials with them.  Hallway passes to the restroom, library, or lockers will be kept at a minimum.

Consequences:  There is a limited amount of sections offered for Skills of Success and the class limit is full.  Many students are on a waiting list for a slot to open.  Students who do not follow the rules or use their time wisely may be removed and assigned an alternate elective that has additional placements.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION GENERAL RULES

If your child isn't feeling well or is hurt, you will need to provide us with a note in order for your child to be allowed to sit out for that days activities.  Your child will still be expected to dress in the PE uniform, but will have an alternative assignment.  If your child needs to sit out more than three consecutive days, a doctors note is required.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at fettermandm@lisd.net

We are looking forward to a great and fun year in Physical Education.  Our goal is to teach your child how to become physically fit, and maintain a level of fitness throughout their adult life.  We will touch on many sports throughout the year.  I am sure we will find something that everybody enjoys before the year is over.
Each class period starts with warm up exercises followed by some type of running activity.
It is okay for your child to bring a water bottle to keep in their lockers on those days. Be sure and have warm sweat pants and shirts for those cold days outside!!

We will do a mile run every week as part of their test grade.   We hope that each and every time they run the mile, their time will improve a couple of seconds.  We prepare for the mile each day by doing a little bit of running before our daily activity...

Thanks for all you do to support our program!!!

The first six weeks of school is geared to evaluate the students current level of fitness.  These test were developed through a program called Fitness Gram.  The state has adopted this tool in an effort to fight the current issues at hand such as Chilhood Obesity, lack of physical exercise due to prolong use of video games, tv, etc....Our goal is to provide the students with at least 30 minutes a day of strenuous physical activity in an effort to improve their overall physical and mental health.  A final report will be sent to the state and given to the student.  This report will indicate if the student is within the "healthy" guidelines determined by the state.

We have started jogging every day slowly.  The students are jogging 2-1-2-1-2  2 minutes jog, 1 minute walk..etc The times will increase gradually and each student is encouraged to push at their own pace.
