Welcome Everyone!!!!

Welcome to my School Notes page for the 2007-2008 school year! Please make sure you join the "notify me" list so that you will be informed of when I have updated my school notes. A special thank you goes out to everyone who has donated items to our classroom and has volunteered to give their time and energy. You are greatly appreciated!

    ****OURSHININGSTARS****

  • The Character Word for the month of March is patience. To be patient is to wait for our turn quietly and calmly. It is important to let things happen at the appropriate time.
  • The Student of the Week is Sam Smith. We look forward to learning about what makes Sam special!
  • Our class has worked very hard this year preparing for the Reading TAKS Test which we will be taking on Wednesday. I wish everyone the best of luck. Make sure you use everything we have learned. I know all of you will do well!
  • On Thursday we will have Game Day! The children may bring in any board games, card games, electronics, I-Pods, Nintendo DS, etc. This is, of course, with parent permission. They are responsible for keeping up with their own valuables.
  • We will be having our Read-In and Ticket Reward Party this Friday.

Week of Mar.3- Mar.7

We need the following items for our classroom. If you can help donate any of them, we would be very grateful:

    1. Rabbit Food-"Fiesta Rabbit Lapin"- available at pet supply stores
    2. Rabbit Litter-"Yesterday's News"
    3. Rabbit Treats-"Nutriphase Yogurt Drops"
    4. Guinea Pig Food- "Fiesta Guinea Pig Lapin"
    5. Guinea Pig Bedding- "Carefresh Ultra Pet Bedding"
    6. 1/2 size canned sodas- 8 fl. oz.

Reading Counts:The students are required to read a minimum of 4 reading counts books at a 3.5 level or higher this 6 weeks. Please encourage your child to read and take tests on a variety of books. Some of the Readong Counts books read should be chapter books. It is to our benefit to be exposed to a variety of literature. The goal is to read as many books as possible. The more books read and tests taken, the better the chance of having high scores. For each test not taken, a 50 will be given. Each book that is not at a level of 3.5 or higher will have 10 points deducted from the score. Reading Counts Tests are tests that are meant to measure your child's comprehension skills. The children will not be allowed to view the book while they take their reading counts test. Please make sure they are adequately prepared before they ask to take a reading counts test. They can take tests before school (7:30), during study hall, and after school if they cannot do it during the day. The children are encouraged to write their scores in their Reading Logs to keep track. The highest 3 test scores are recorded in the grade book as daily grades. You can get two tasks accomplished at once by reading "reading counts" books for your required 100 minutes of reading each week. Make sure you look on the schools Reading Counts list for the books that we do have tests on. You can do this by going to the LISD website. Click on "Schools". Select "Bridlewood". Select "Reading Counts."

**** Bronco Tales Publishing is accepting stories until Tuesday, March 25th! Remember, when submitting your story, you must have it typed and saved to a disc and have your illustrations complete. We are looking forward to seeing your story submissions!****
