6th grade discovery: Your child will be taking a nine week course in technology education. The first three weeks will be devoted to graphic communication.Students will learn about drawing instruments such as a T square and triangles to gain experience in completing orthographic views of different objects. The second three weeks, your child will understand the history of U.S. space exploration and the development of rocketry. They will comprehend certain scientific principles of rockets and space travel as they build a model rocket. The last three weeks, each student will understand engineering as they construct a tower with glue and balsa wood. They will recognize and observe the relationship between design and tower strength by testing the finished tower.
The 7th & 8th graders will explore vocational careers of their interest as they rotate through different computer modules. These modules provide students with math, science, technology, and language arts experiences. Every student's unique learning style is accommodated through a combination of text, graphics, video and hands-on activities. The modules are student-directed which give students control of their own learning experience. Throughout the semester, students also have opportunities to work with a partner, which promotes positive communication, teamwork, inquiry, learning, and social skills.
