I hope everyone enjoyed their first school holiday of the year! Just a couple of tidbits of information to pass on-
*School pictures will be this Thursday, Sept. 4. Students will be taking their picture through PE. External PE/tennis students need to make sure they take their picture during their lunch time. These pictures will be made into school IDs. Mrs. Lingren announced at orientation that students will be required to wear these while on campus. Students received an ID today that has their 07-08 school picture. These will be replaced with this year's picture in the weeks to come.
*Overall, dresscode issues have been on the low side. Please make sure that your child follows these expectations. On the first offense, we ask the student to change into their PE wear or extra shirt/bottoms. If a student continues to wear clothes not in dress code, they will be assigned PAS/ISS.
*If you have already completed a criminal history check, you DO NOT have to fill out another one. These will remain on file unless there is a chnage in status. If you have questions or concerns, please email me and I can look this information up.
**Welcome Downing Middle School Students and Parents**
I am so excited as the 2008-2009 school year is beginning shortly! I am embarking on my 8th year in administration and 12th year in education. I started out teaching in the Mesquite Independent School district. I taught 6th grade and 1st grade and enjoyed interacting with both of those age groups. I did realize that the middle school level is where I needed to be, and thankfully, I was hired as an assistant principal for McKamy Middle School. I left McKamy after 2 years to come to Downing!
Many of the returning staff, students, and parents already know that towards the end of last year, I was on maternity leave. My husband, Scott (a technology teacher in Denton ISD) and I had the most adorable little boy on April 17, Reid William Jacobsen! He has made my summer break very memorable, and I am certain, will be making his debut at Downing very soon!
Some of my duties and responsibilities at Downing inlude overseeing the students whose last names fall within the K-Z range. I work closely with one of our school counsleor's, Mr. Dale Boehnke. Some of my other responsibilities include:
