Hello Downing Parents and Students.  Welcome to my information page.  I felt as though this might be a good way for me to communicate information to you without having to wait for the newsletters to go out.  Please feel free to sign up to be notified when I update so you can get up to the minute information!

Dear Parents,
We are about to end the first six weeks and school is going very well.  Please remember that there are many wonderful athletes playing on our Downing teams and football and volleyball are well underway.  The games are fun, exciting and inexpensive.  What a great combination!  Please remember to call if you have questions or concerns! The following notice was shared with me by a concerned parent.  I do not know if this has been a problem in our area, but knowledge is powerful and it is always better to be safe than sorry. We will work together to keep our kids safe.

NEWSFLASH!!!

New drug in Schools...

Please   pass this on even if you do not have kids in school. Parents should know about this killer drug.
Grandparents, send it to your familys and friends.

This is a new drug known as 'strawberry quick '.
There is a very scary thing going on in the schools right now that we all need to be aware of.

There is a type of crystal meth going around that looks like strawberry pop rocks (the candy t hat sizzles and 'pops' in your mouth). It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick.

Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed   off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange.

Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers   and even not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been given it and believe d it is candy) and to take any that they may have to a teacher, principal, etc.   immediately.

Pass this email on to as many people as you can (even if they don't have kids) so that we can   raise awareness and hopefully prevent any tragedies from occurring.
Click on the link below, it is very informative!!  Us Parents need to know this!!

Drop off and pick up policy for dances:

We always keep the front doors locked for these dances so the drop off and pick up spot is the loops by the breezeway connecting the gym to the cafeteria.

We do expect if the students come to the dance that they stay at the dance until the end time, unless a parent comes into the dance and picks them up.  Please be ready to show a form of identification and only send someone to pick up that is a legal guadian or on the list of approved people on the student information form. If your child is going to leave early with someone other than their parents, prior to the end of activity, they will need a note from home authorizing the pick up. At the end of the dance, we will release all the students just like we do at the end of the school day and if they have plans to go home with someone other that their parents we will not require a note. We do not allow students to walk home from evening activities for their own safety.

We enjoy having your children here for these after hours events.  Please feel free to email any questions you make have.

We are in the beginning stages of implementing a program called Safe and Civil Schools.  This is a collaborative program that works with the students, parents and staff to be more proactive with policies and teaching expectations, than reactive when students fail to meet expectations.  We are so excited about this and we will need parents help! For more information about Safe and Civil Schools go to:
