Dear Parents,
We are coming down to the wire for TAKS so we will be doing quite a bit of practice to get ready. I wholeheartedly believe that ALL my students have the capability to pass TAKS and that MOST of them can be commended. It now is up to them and how serious they decide to be. The skills are there now we are concerned about the determination. We went over the benchmarks last week and I was amazed at how many kids can be commended on TAKS if they had just one more question correct on the benchmark. I will be meeting individually with them on Thursday to discuss thier plans for this year's TAKS and how they can become commended.
The new genre for SSR and BOOKTALKS is biography or autobiography. Since our library has very short biographies there is no minimum page requirement for this assignment. Most of the books are about 75 pages in length.
Newspaper writing is going well in Pre-AP English. The final product will be due at the end of April.
With only nine weeks left of school some of the kids have lost focus and grades are slipping due to work being late or not turned in at all. Please speak with your child to remind them that failing now could determine the need for summer school. Who wants to sit in a classroom all summer and have your parents pay for it???
