AR -Each student will have the opportunity to read AR books, and then take an AR quiz over the book.  I am asking the students to read their AR books at least 2 times before taking the quiz.  The AR quizzes are not a requirement.  If the students are not comfortable taking the quizzes yet, then I am telling them to wait until they are comfortable.  If your child is reading a book from the AR list at home, please make sure that he/she brings the book to school when he/she is ready to take the quiz.

About the teacher!
I grew up in the hills of West Virginia. I graduated from West Liberty State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I moved to Lewisville, Texas almost two years ago. This is my second year teaching first grade at Morningside Elementary. I love being a Morningside Mustang! I enjoy riding horses, traveling, shopping and playing with my teacup Chihuahua. I love visiting with my family and my friends.

I became an elementary teacher because I love working with children. They are so amazing. I enjoy their honesty and creativity. Each day is a new adventure!

Misson for the Class
The mission for the class is to create a positive and exciting learning environment for all students. It is my desire to meet each child at their current level of ability and provide them with opportunities to learn to their fullest potential.
I desire to create a strong partnership with parents that includes
regular communication.
I will accept your child exactly how they come to me and it is my desire to help them grow into something even more beautiful by the end of first grade.

If a student turns in a spelling test that is written illegibly, the student will have the opportunity to recopy the test during free time or recess.

*We will begin writing on wide-ruled notebook paper. The students will practice writing on notebook paper in the classroom. Please allow your child opportunities to practice this at home. This is to prepare our first graders for second grade.

*Wednesday is spirt day! Please wear your class t-shirt on this day.

*We will be going to the library on Friday this week.
Please make sure your child is keeping one book at school and the other in their backpack. They must have both books at school everyday!

*Please make sure that your child is reading the books from their guided reading folder each night. The books will be changed out periodically.  Guided reading folders must be returned each day. If a student forgets his/her guided reading folder, they will move their clothespin to yellow.

*NO NAME PAPERS: I will start taking 5 points off papers with no names. Students are reminded to put their name on thier paper right when they are handed out.  Please try to get them to do this at home as well.

* Please make sure your child has their take home folder every day. Please check and empty your child's yellow folder every night. Students will start missing 10 minutes off thier recess if they forget their folder.

*Please save your Box Tops for Education. Thank you!

* Please let me know if there is ever a change in how your child will get home from school.  Please also remember that I cannot release your child to anyone who is not on your child's enrollment card unless I have written notice from you.  I want to make sure that everyone gets home safely!***Please make sure you contact the school or send a note.
