Grade 5 had a great time on their field trip to UT at Austin. They participated in many activities and loved eating at the dormitory. They also took a brief splash in the fountain and visited the bookstore. We have finished our leadership unit and are now into The Future. Students are reading science fiction and we will be looking at future predictions and advancements as well as what we can do now regarding conservation of our environment. Students are also working on creative stories which will be published.
Grade 4 continues their study of adversity and is now looking at immigration in America and their own family history. They will also help Gr. 3 with last of the clues for our Mystery City entry.
Grade 3 has done a great job of charting and research for Mystery Cities. We have our last clues and must submit our entry by the end of April. We have wrapped up our Natural Disasters unit and will begin a geography/explorers unit.
Grade 2 students are writing reports on endangered species and will do presentations of their work on May 5 & 7th. We will then focus on ocean creatures and conservation of our environment.
Grade 1 has continued their study of patterns by looking now at constellations. They are learning about coordinates and the history behind constellations.
Please remind your student that flexibility is a good life skill. As we move into the busy schedule of the next month with TAKS, field trips, field day, and other end of the year activities, the LEAP schedule cannot always accommodate all the changes and their class time may be different or shortened. I do thank the Parkway teachers for their ongoing flexibility this year!
LEAP students are expected to have satisfactory classroom performance and we anticipate commended performance on TAKS. Some students are starting to get behind on classroom work which may impact their LEAP eligibility. Students need to always do their personal best!
The last LEAP testing session will begin next week. Any referrals after April 18 will be added to the schedule for next fall.
