The Week of December 1, 2008
Mrs. Corfield’s Class

Themes:
Math: Numbers 6-10 (Please note that once a number has been introduced, each child is expected to write it properly.)
Social Studies: Gingerbread and Signs of the Season
Language Arts: Letter E

Sight Words: I need the children to bring in the sight-word rings so that I can update them for this six-week grading period. Ten children have near-perfect or perfect recollection of the entire group of sight words thus far!

Homework: The children all have homework. For the time being, they will be tracing and writing the letter of the week. Homework is given out on Monday and is due on Friday. Please be sure the children have written their names on their homework. Sight word cards are also homework. The children should be devoting 15 minutes per night to working on sight-word recognition.

Upcoming Events:
December 16: Winter Celebration of the Arts
December 18: Class Holiday Party 2 p.m. (Anyone planning to attend must have completed a background check through Lewisville ISD.)
December 19: Early Release: 1:30 p.m.

DRA Testing Results:

In your child’s last report card, there was an area showing their reading level on the DRA. Please note that this test was given near the middle of October; most of the children have made gains in their reading levels. The District would like each kindergartener to be reading at Level C and preferably D by the end of the school year. Many of the children are already performing at those levels.

As far as the Word Analysis tasks go, a score of 26 out of 26 capital letters, lowercase letters, or letter sounds (each counted individually) was Control; a score of 21-26 was Gaining; a score of 10-20 was Some; and a score of 0-9 was No/Little. In distinguishing pictured rhyming words, distinguishing initial sounds of pictured words, and understanding words used to talk about printed language, a score of 8 out of 8 given was Control; a score of 6-7 was Gaining; a score of 3-5 was Some; and a score of 0-2 was No/Little. Of concern are those scores within the Some and/or No/Little ranges.
