*Welcome to Lakeland Christian Academy!!!
Hello everyone and welcome to my K-4 class this year. I am so excited to meet and get to know each and every one of you. I also have a lot of fun and exciting things in store for us to do and learn together, but first I wanted to tell you a little about myself. My name, as you already know, is Mrs. Lisa Culotta and I have been teaching at Lakeland Christian Academy for 14 years. I have lived in Flower Mound for 15 years and I have been married for 24 years. I have two beautiful son's. Logan is 20 and will be a sophomore at Texas Tech University where he runs Cross Country and Track and majoring in Clinical Lab Science. Corbin is 17 and will be a Junior at Flower Mound High School where he also runs Cross Country and Track. I also have an Old English Bulldog named Rocco who is 9, two Beta fish and a hamster. You will learn more about me and I will learn a lot about you when we start "Star Student" of the week.
*Small Jacket
I know that the temperature outside is frightful, but the temperature inside tends to be chilly. Some of the children might be cold during the day in our classroom. Please ask your child if they are cold and send in a small jacket or sweater for them that they can carry in their backpack and use whenever they need to. I know that I am cold on occasion and they probably will be as well.
*Old Magazines
If you have any old magazines lying around your house or office could you please send them to school asap. Please make sure that they are age and school appropriate. Thank you.
*Best Board
I have a Best Board that I display the children's work when I can tell that they have done their best. You might want to encourage your child to do their best at school. You will know if your child's work was on the Best Board because they will be so proud to show you and when I take them down and send them home, they will have an award stapled to them.
*Lunch
Please do not forget to pack a lunch for your child Monday through Thursday. Please do not send in anything that needs refrigeration or heating since we will be eating lunch in our classroom and we do not have access to a refrigerator or microwave. You will not need to send in a lunch on Fridays because we let out at 12:00.
*Stamps
I have three stamps that I like to use when I correct papers. They are a "Good Work" stamp, an "Excellent" stamp and a "Completed With Teacher's Help" stamp. I will stamp a "Good Work" stamp on your child's paper if the paper is a handwriting page or coloring page. I will stamp an "Excellent" stamp on your child's paper if the child had to really think and completed the paper all by themselves. I will stamp "Completed With Teacher's Help" when the child required help from me in order to complete the page correctly. I also have a "Neat Work" stamp, but that one is self explanatory. Please don't stress over the stamps, they all mean that your child is doing good work. One means that your child stills needs time to master a particular skill and the other means that your child has mastered that skill. We are all in the learning stages and we are not all good at the same thing at the same time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
*Labor Day
Monday, September 1, is Labor Day and an LCA school holiday. Enjoy your day and I will see everyone on Tuesday.
*Chapel
Chapel will be at 9:00am on Wednesdays in Children's Theater. Please remind your child that chapel is sort of like church and they need to be on their best behavior. Please also be on time, or if we are not in the classroom when you arrive, please bring your child up to chapel to meet us. You are also welcome to join us anytime.
*Storybook Theater
Storybook Theater is where Mrs. Tena makes books come to life with the help of the World Wide Web. Mrs. Tena will read a book that goes along with the Bible lessons we are going over in our classrooms or with a particular theme we are working on and then bring it to life with the help of the internet. Stop by and join us sometime!
*Star Student
We will be having a "Star Student" of the week each week during the school year. A letter will be coming home to you in your child's folder to explain the details. I will be the first "Star Student" Stop by and check out my poster of my family. I will be the "Star Student" for the week of Sept. 2-5.
Mrs. Lisa Sept. 2-5
Hallie A. Sept. 8-12
Austin Sept. 15-19
Brody Sept. 22-26
Claire Sept. 29-Oct. 3
Please let me know if these dates don't work for you. We can work around your schedule and/or special visitor.
*Stay and Play
Stay and Play is a fun filled time for your child to continue to make new friends while keeping the old. Stay and Play is open to 3 year olds through 1/2 day Kindergarten children and is available on Mondays and Wednesdays until 3:30. The first Stay and Play will be on Wednesday, Sept. 3. If you haven't signed your child up yet, you might want to before your child begs you to.
*Spirit Day
Every Friday of the month is Spirit Day at Lakeland Christian Academy! Wear your school shirt and jeans to show your school spirit! If you don't have a school shirt please visit our website at www.lakelandchristianacademy.org and click on the uniform icon. It will take you to the Parker Uniform site where you can see store location and hours. You will need to purchase a blue T-shirt with the Lakeland Christian Academy crest on the front because your child will have to have one in order to go on any field trips. So please get one ASAP!
*Alphabet Bear
After we build our class bear, we will be starting to send "Alphabet Bear" home with the children. We will start this on Wednesday, Sept. 10. If your child brings home "Alphabet Bear", a paper sack with a letter written on it will come home too. "Alphabet Bear" will spend the night with your child and help him/her to find things that start with that letter. Please put the items in the paper sack and bring it along with "Alphabet Bear" back to school on the next school day. This is how we are going to do show and tell, other than "Star Student", where you can bring anything you want for show and tell. We will start with the end of the alphabet as far as the names are concerned because we started with the beginning of the alphabet with "Star Student". If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me, and happy hunting!
*Class Pictures
Teddy Bear Portraits will be at LCA to take individual pictures of the children. We have not been told of the exact date as to when our class's pictures would be taken, however they will be here Sept. 10, 11 and 12. More info. to come.
*Apple Tasting
We will be tasting apples on Friday, Sept. 26. I will have a sign up sheet on the sign in table for anyone who would like to bring in a different color and/or kind of apple for us to taste in our study of the letter "Aa". We will also make a graph to see which apple is the most popular tasting apple of them all.
*Octopus Stew
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, we would like to have Octopus Stew for snack. I will put out a sign up sheet for volunteers to send in packages of hot dogs (Octopus) and ketchup for our snack as we continue our study of the letter "Oo".

*Bible Verses
We will be starting to memorize Bible verses in September and continue throughout the school year. On Monday, the verse will be presented to the class. We will work on it everyday in class, but practicing it at home will also benefit your child. On Friday, the sutdents will recite the verse to me and I will be giving a colored bead to those who complete the verse and reference correctly. Each child will get to make a "Bible Verse" necklace with the beads they earn during the school year. This is a really important and fun project that the children love doing. Please encourage your child to participate. You will be proud and amazed at what your child learns about God and the Bible through these verses. Bible verses will start on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
WK 1 (Sept. 2-5) "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1
WK 2 (Sept. 8-12) "All Things were made by Him." John 1:3

I hope that I haven't forgotten anything, but if I did I will have a note on the sign in table or wall outside of our classroom. Please check there for updates as well. Thanks
* I'd like to leave you with one of my favorite poems by Richard Peck.
TWENTY MINUTES A DAY
By: Richard Peck
Read to your children
Twenty minutes a day;
You have the time,
And so do they.
Read while the laundry is in the machine;
Read while the dinner cooks;
Tuck your child in the crook of your arm
And reach for the library books.
Hide the remote,
Let the computer games cool,
For one day your children will be off to school:
Remedial? Gifted? You have the choice;
Let them hear the first tales
In the sound of your voice.
Read in the morning;
Read over noon;
Read by the light of
Goodnight Moon.
Turn the pages together,
Sitting close as you'll fit,
Till the small voice beside you says,
"Hey, don't quit!"
